We must do a split stay (due to limited availability and late bookings!) and usually like to get the DDP. Does Disney have a minimum number of nights stay to book the DDP for everyone in the party?

The entire stay in 1 villa- so you can stay 1 night and get it but if you stay 7 nights you have to get it for all 7. If you are not moving villas then you will run into issues trying to get the dining plan for a split stay- you have to move to start or end a dp.

We stayed one night and got the DDP. It was actually great! Enough food for the two full days we were there (before a cruise.)

Thank you so much for your quick response. So even if it is for ONE night, we can still get the DDP?

It's per reservation so if your reservation is for one night, all on the reservation must get the DDP.

The deluxe DDP may be worth it for one night cause you can use the credits until midnight of your check out day.

This sounds like an excellent deal but lets say you are doing a split stay and the first night you do the dining plan. On day two you check into the next hotel. The dining credits from the one night plan are still good till midnight even though you are checked into the next resort at 4pm?

Yes good until midnight. The deluxe plan is 3 table service credits with appetizer so you can eat at a Signature restaurant using 2 credits and at a regular restaurant the next night after you check in at your new resort.

I would get a print out of your dining entitlements when you check out at your first resort just in case. Then verify that the credits transferred when you check in at the second resort.

Doing this is the only way that we feel the DDP is worth the money.

Wow interesting!!! How about this one... Say we book 2 nights regular dining plan, then 2 nights (on another reservation) on the deluxe dining plan... Will the disney system "know" to use the credits from the previous night before using the "new" credits for the deluxe plan?

I don't think so. I would make sure that it happens with your server plus you have your DDP credit print out to help them along.

I wouldn't get the DDP for the 2nd stay, too much food from the first stay and you will save money by paying out of pocket.

Before MBs, you just used the KTTW for the original reservation for those leftover dining credits. Now I think the method suggested by disneynutz would be a good idea. Now how you make sure the server uses the expiring credits, I am not sure. Usually concierge can fix the credits if need be, just keep all of your receipts.

Often, I will do a one night split stay the first night of my trip just to do this exact thing - purchase the DxDP. As mentioned, it is alot of food for 2 days and you can really come out ahead significantly by maximizing the value. I also love getting the refillable mug because it is good for the rest of my trip - even though I change resorts. :thumbsup2
