Are Their Variances in Annual Pass Prices?

Where else can I buy them if not at the resort or off Disney's website?

You can buy them during your visit to DL. The price is the same at the gate as the advance purchase price. I'm not sure who else sells them. Some groups, credit unions do sell them I believe.

If you buy the AP before your trip, what are the dates of your pass? Do you tell them what date you want it to start on?

If you buy it before your trip, I believe it starts the first day you use it. You'll probably have a voucher that you have to turn in. Then got get your pics taken and stuff. I am sure someone else will be along to verify this though

OP, not sure if you already know that there are 2 types of APs, the deluxe and the premium. The deluxe costs less but has blackout dates (dates the pass is no good) for days Disneyland expects big crowds. The Premium has no blackout dates. I had to search a little to find any info on the Premium pass on the DL website...
