Are the towel animals "yours" to keep?

hmm...let's look at this from a child's perspective, only because that who most towel animals are probably intended..

cute little animal made from who cares what....decorated in pretty colored stickers and maybe even a ribbon and left on my bed....Mickey must have known that mom would make me leave the parks and take a nap!

i'm sure that I'm not the only one that thinks it would be cruel to tell a kid that the cute little toy that magically appeared on their pillow isn't really theirs!

We've gotten towel creations several times and never took them, except for the last time - only because the mousekeeper had glued the eyes and yarn hair on them, so I figured that they wouldn't reuse them. Also, she left a sweet note saying that she hoped my daughter enjoyed them. I still felt guilty for taking them, though, until I read this thread! So thanks!

 What resorts did you stay at to get Animals made for you? We have never seen any except on the cruise.

Is it a common thing?

We got a couple at All Star Sports last July (our first onsite stay). They were so cute--a duck and a fancy toothbrush holder!

Now I wonder if I too insulted the mousekeeper by not taking them home. I did leave her a nice tip, though--she did a wonderful cleaning job.

Well, I've never taken any of the washcloth animals home but the wall art, drapes and bedspread I have sure do make my bedroom "grand"......................:smooth:

:earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsboy:

P/S just kidding:rotfl:

We got one or two that we didn't take. We did however take the beautiful angel that was left during our Xmas trip last year. I's displayed in our dining room.

:p Well........IF we get any........they will be going home with us!!

 I can't wait!!:jumping1:

Oh my goodness, this is great news. Of course now that we'll all be taking them home they may change their policy! I had no idea and we never considered taking them home. We will now!

We took ours home! I asked our housekeeper who replied that it was her gift to us.

Oh....and I never buy refillable mugs. And I stay at my own pool. :teeth:

Yes we finally got our first towel animals on our trip to OKW this past March.
It was a delight! We had them when we arrived and then again on the full cleaning day. We had an owl (my best friend is an owl lover and insists that the mousekeeper knew that she likes owls), a duck, a swan and a rabbit. My friend refused to let me use the towel animals until our last night and even then she would not let me disturb the owl!
::yes:: :rotfl:

One thing I have always noticed about the DIS boards is the ethics competitions that seem to abound...on every possible subject. lol.:)

never considered the fact that taking home towel animals would raise the bottom line. Disney probably re-orders a set amount of towels periodically anyway due to wear and tear. I doubt enough people "steal" their towel animals to make a difference.

I like the idea of learning how to make your own though.

People, people...Leave the washcloths for Disney

You very well may be leaving the washcloths for the landfills. Just what we need, the price per pound of garbage going up because the Disney Police are having another tempertantrum.

I'm pretty sure the towel animals that were left in our room at Pop Century were not on there way to the dump/landfill!! The resort had only been open a couple of months, and the towels, washcloths were in very good shape. Just an observation.

I have been very lucky to have towel/washcloth creations left in our rooms on every trip except the 1st 2. That's seven trips of housekeeping creations. On 2 of those trips it was just DH & I. One was our honeymoon, the other just last month during Easter Week at PC. She left us something everday that we didn't have the "do not disturb" sign out. (I know that isn't really what the sign says, but I don't remember what it does say...side note on that...Housekeeping called us each time we had the sign out to make sure we didn't need anything AND they left us a bag of towels, etc. AND the last day there was a towel doll in the bag!!!)

It never even ocurred to me to take them! I took photo's of them,. but thought the housekeeper could use them for someone else and wouldn't have to make more. We always had plenty of towels to use along with the animals, etc, so didn't have to undo the creations. Also thought it would be stealing towels! Sure didn't expect that official response! I still won't take them, but hope housekeeper doesn't think we didn't appreciate them. I always leave a note of thanks and a nice tip everyday, though, so I don't think she was offended.

We stayed at Riverside in 2002 and were told that we could take the towel animals home. We only took one but would have gladly paid for it. A CM at the front desk also indicated the towel animals were a gift. We would come home each night from the park to find something different and loved it. It was considered a gift and per the front desk, we were allowed. Never gave it a second thought!

Does anyone have a picture of these towel animals, just thought that it would be neat to see............

Will be in WDW in 6 days..........

Here are our three. I took this photo while we were still at the Wilderness Lodge.

The first one appears to be a child in a snow suit! She made it the day it got so cold (January 2003 it went down to a record breaking low of 28 degrees one night! )

The one in the middle looked like a duck, and the last one was some kind of bird. She also made this stand kind of thing for my hair brushes! We left that one there though.

We went to the WL for 10 days in Oct and we were told to keep them .
I asked the Mousekeeper ( she made us 2 Dalmations complete with spots when she found out my DH was a Fireman ) and she said to keep them all . We had between 2-4 everyday .

I asked at the Concierge desk and they said the same thing . That they were ours to keep .

Dont know if we will even get any this Sept. but if we do I will ask again to make sure before I take them . :teeth:

Bummer! I've only received 1 towel animal in all my trips and I left him there on the bathroom sink! It never even occured to me that I should take him home. I just assumed he was hotel property just like all the other washclothes & towels in the room. Now I wish I had taken him - I'll probably never get another.......

The easiest solution to all of this is a quick phone call from your room to the front desk, asking them if it is permissible to keep the wonderful towel animals that mousekeeping made for you...if they say yes then they are yours to keep. If they say no, then they are yours to enjoy while you are guests at the resort and are not to be taken home. Their answer should be enough to satisfy anyone.:wave2:
