Are the tours worth the price?

Hello everyone!!
As you may already know my DH and I are going to DLR in 15 more sleeps and we've got a total of 4 1/2 days at DLR(we're doing Universal and other stuff the other days). My DH has never been and I wanted to try some new stuff this time around so we got riverside seating for the fantasmic show and made reservations at all the restaurants that were too expensive for me last time I went. I was looking at some of the tours that are offered and while there is a good chance they'll already be full I thought I would check with you guys to see if the tours are even that good before I bother calling disneyland to book. We were looking at the welcome to disneyland tour and the holidays tour(I can't remember what it's called but it comes with priority seating at the holiday parade).

Yes do a tour! I think the tours that you are looking at are only about 2 1/2 hours. If I were you I would do the Holiday tour, because the next time you go may not be during the hoildays. I hope you have a safe trip and a wonderful time.

I enjoyed the tour a lot, but I love history and inside trivia. If you already feel you have limited time and are trying to see the parks for what they are, I'd say forget the tour because it is limited. For instance (using the Walt-based map), we went as far "right" as Buzz Lightyear, as far "north" as just beyond the the Castle, (just "under" the sword in the stone), and as far "left" as near Splash Mountain, which we didn't ride. We did do Big Thunder Mountain though... We also had the fireworks, and some of the tours have the parade from prime seats.

We did get some nice trinkets though, such as a limited edition pin, only available on the tour, and a replica of an e-ticket book. That was the 50th anniversary tour though, which may be different from what they have now.

I know with the holiday tour you get a special pin and prime seating for the parade. I can't remember what other little things it came with, it did seem neat just a little expensive when we've already spent over a hundred dollars to watch fantasmic. But I guess we don't get to do this very often so maybe it's worth it.

I just made reservations for the holiday tour yesterday - for Nov. 21. There were still plenty of openings for the tours, it seemed.

For that tour, we'll get a pin, priority seating at the parade, a snack (cookies and hot chocolate, she thought) and priority boarding (or something like that) for IASW and HM.

this will be our first tour. And our first time at BB. And our first time at PI for Minnie and Friends breakfast. And our first time for ToonTown thing in the morning. And our first time for Lilo & Stitch breakfast.

Can you tell I'm all a-twitter? :hyper:

I also recommend the tours...if you can afford it. They are fun, informative and different! The Holiday tour was very cool last year, we enjoyed it very much. Have fun whatever you decide :sunny:

lol, that sounds like so much fun! It will also be our first time at BB and we booked the holiday tour today for Nov.17 and it also seemed like there was plenty of openings. We didn't ask about the snacks though, but hot chocolate sure sounds good. I wonder if we'll get it in the holiday mug that they were selling hotchocolate in last time we were there.

wouldn't that be Wonderful??? She didn't say anything about gifts (other than the pin), but it could happen!

Where can I find info about the tours available and also any discounts on prices? We'll be there in just over 2 weeks and have AP's, Disney Visa, and AAA if any of those are good for discounts!

Yes, in the past tours we've gotten the hot chocolate in the nice holiday mugs. :thumbsup2 :santa: :coffee:

I think the only discount is for APs - I asked about DVisa and AAA, but none for those.

We got a 20% discount on our tours by asking for the AAA discount.

I specifically asked about that and was told there wasn't one!

I'm thinking maybe I need to call back.

Well, I called on the discount.

The CM told me the only discount they have is for AP's. There is no other option for them to choose on their screen. She called other offices and even walked next door (wherever that may be) and asked them. No one knows anything about a AAA discount.

Guess you got a little extra Pixie Dust!

That's very strange. The only thing I can think of is that sometimes the discounts come and go. The AAA discount may have been in effect until November and now it's not avaliable for awhile. I have no idea. We've gotten the AAA discount every time we've taken a tour at both DL and DW, so I'm quite puzzled as to why a CM woudln't know anything about it.
Strange.

They do offer the discounts for the other regular tours, just not the Holiday tour.

Yes they do do the tour in December. We are doing ours on Dec 29th and they give a 20% AP discount if you have one!
