Hi all

We are going in November.. me, dh, 2 boys aged 7 & 3.5. We are going to have the dining plan but don't really want to sit down every night to eat so I was thinking of doing 2 Signature sit down meals.. Cali Grill and Cinderellas castle.. now I'm sure CRT isn't in the same league as the other 2 credit tables, but is the Cali grill that much better than all the other places??? And what about Citricos and/or Narcossee???

thank you!!

No, the California Grill is not that much better than all the other signature restaurants. It is quite good, but does not even make my top 5 places at WDW. My top 5 are Jiko, Citricos, bluezoo, Il Mulino, Artist Point and Flying Fish (I know that is 6 places, but I have a hard time making up my mind).

thank you.. I meant are they "the signature places as a whole" better than the other TS places.. I was just using the CG as an example.. but thank you for your top 6!! :thumbsup2

Yes! The quality of food at the signatures is much better. To us they are definetly worth the extra money!

YES! We prefer to eat most of our meals at signature restaurants. We love Calif Grill, Narcoossee's, Artist Point, & Brown Derby. Calif Grill is SO delicious! If you eat at Narcoossee's, do not pass on dessert. They have the BEST desserts we have had anywhere!
The only 1 TS restaurant we love is Le Cellier.
We bring our boys to these ressies too & they definitely enjoy their meals.

They really are much better than the non-signature meals. Having said that, there are very nice options at non-signature meals where you can have some good food in a themed atmosphere. Kids as young as yours can make it through a signature meal, but generally those meals take a VERY long time.

Yes cali grill is that much better service wise & food. Narcoosees isn't that much better. Citricos is excellent in food, service, quality, etc. & yes it is better than most as well.
I can't answer if it is worth 2 credits or not since you might spend just as much at some of the places such as in epcot but only you can decide that by looking at the menu and prices. We usually spend about $30-40 more on signatures than the 1 credit ones (that are expensive like in Epcot), if not we will spend about double or more for places like Kona Cafe and such. But we are on the deluxe plan so it doesn't matter to us since we only eat 2 meals a day, one being the 2 credit ones and this time came out WAY ahead, about $550 for 2 adults.

Yes, the signature restaurants are significantly better than the other TS places. And, even the signature restaurants are suffering these days from cuts in food quality and streamlined purchasing.

Disney TS meals rank somewhere around chain restaurant food, sometimes the same as, sometimes a little better.

Disney sig meals rank just below true fine dining experiences but at true fine dining prices.

In my opinion yes, the signature places are a bit better than most single credit TS with some exceptions.

In my opinion, Cali Grill and CRT are two places that very much are NOT worth two credits.

Most of the single credit buffets have really gone downhill in the last few years. DDP decreased the quality, and now the recession. Disney seems to have really cut back onthe food quality. Which is such a shame.

There are a few exceptions. Tutto Italia was excellent on our most recent visit. It was, in my opinion, better than Cali Grill. The one exception at Cali is that some of the sushi is excellent. The 'sushi deluxe' there was nothing special, but some of their specialty rolls are really great. The specialty rolls don't make a great fit with DDP though. The desserts at Cali are also outstanding. The entrees though just were not very good at all. Service can be mixed. The staff tends to be too high and mighty, IMO. The check-in staff in particular - compared to other Disney staff - just are not friendly or helpful.
They just act like they can't be bothered most of the time to answer even simple questions, much less give any info beyond a direct question. (Like when my dad inquired at one restaurant at GF, they suggested that Citricos might have a table available, and offered to check. At Cali, when they are booked solid, they can't be bothered to direct guests to try at the Wave, much less make the effort to actually look up tables there.) It's just such a contrast with almost everywhere else at WDW. Eventhe check-in staff at the value resorts - WDW's least expensive resorts - go out of their way to be nice and helpful most of the time.

We weren't that hot on Brown Derby, but it wasn't bad in any way. It just wasn't our taste in food style.

Our most recent meal at Narcoossee's was excellent! I also like Flying Fish. We recently enjoyed dining at Citricos. Only one person thought their food was just okay; everyone else enjoyed it very much.

There are some I haven't tried: Artist's Point, Jiko.

I haven't dined there in the last year, but one reason we haven't dined at Jiko is that we like Boma so much!

I will give one caveat, as other posters have stated - meals at siggy places can easily take two hours. That can be a bit much for young kids, especially as it gets later and kids tend to get tired. You will tend to see more families dining at such places on the earlier side.

The food is better. But the meals also take longer, are a bigger committment (in terms on getting there particularly, since they usually mean a little extra travel scheduling), and you have a preschooler. I wouldn't do a lot of signature meals with a pre-schooler myself. Not that you CAN'T, plenty of people bring their young kids in, they have children's menus. But your boys might find spending time on meals to be a low priority in the face of attractions, characters, the pool at the resort.

We liked California Grill and Flying Fish and Artist's Point - all on our return list (in fact, all on our list this year except FF). Narcoosee's food wasn't the best, but the atmosphere was nice with kids (and you can see the fireworks from here pretty well - without the hassle of California Grill). We weren't comfortable with our kids at Jiko, there weren't other kids there when we were there, and our waiter did not make us, or them, comfortable - but apparently, we had a bad experience. (We are trying it again this year - our kids are older as well now).
