Are the shops (target, grocery stores) open on 1 Jan

Are the local shopping centres open on 1 Jan or are they all closed because its a public holiday? thanks

Most retailers will be open on Jan. 1st. (inc. Target) Not everyone spends the day watching football.

I've found that the smaller business (mom and pop's, etc.) may be closed, like restaurants, etc.

I worked at Target for 6 years, they are open on Jan. 1. Most grocery stores are open as well.
