Are the obstructed view rooms that bad?

We are looking at booking a Category 7A room, i guess these are rooms that are partially obstructed, can you still see, are they worth saving a couple hundred bucks to book? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Kristy

I think some of the rooms in this category have tiny balconies that don't even have room for chairs and table. They have just a built in bench. I would be careful not to get one of those.

I've stayed in one of the "minimally obstructed" recategorized rooms on the Magic. The obstruction was quite minimal, and didn't interfere with our enjoyment at all. Sorry, no experience on the Dream.

There are different types of obstructed. We booked 8662 on the Fantasy. It doesn't look very obstructed and I'm happy with that...especially compared to cabin 8674 which appears to be very obstructed. Use the DISboards and check http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2586763&highlight=disney+dream+ship+photos
To see the exterior view of the Dream which should be the same as the Fantasy.
That thread shows some great views of the starboard side of the ship. It helped me pick my room and save a few hundred dollars.

We were booked in 8172 which is an obstructed verrandah on the Fantasy for Nov 2012 (I figured it was the mirror image of 8674) and decided for the small price difference, we would go up one category (to 6B) to an unobstructed verrandah. The price difference was less than $100.

Do they have pictures like this for the wonder?

Careful with the obstructed rooms. Disney doesn't price them as cheaply as other lines, and we have seen unobstructed rooms cheaper or very close in price to the obstructed rooms. Compare before buying.

Are you sure you have your old cabin right? I'm booked in 8172 on the Fantasy for July 2013 and it's a cat 8C (Deluxe Fam Oceanview SR). I really hope it's not an Obs View since we booked so early. I can't seem to find any SR reports on this particular room but would like to find out.

This. Use caution. I'm not sure about the other 7a's , but, avoid 5188 and 5688 aft. Those two I believe are the one ones with the itsy bitsy teenie weenie verandas. Please, correct me someone, if I misspoke.

I have a 7a booked for next Easter on the Fantasy. It is for my mom who requested a verandah. At the time I booked it, it was about $450 cheaper then 7024, the room next door. It is the farthest forward verandah stateroom on deck 7 and a mirror of 7520 if you look at the outside photos. Was a 5c until the reclassification. To me it was worth it as she still has a balcony and the obstruction in this room seems minor IMO.

I'm booked in 8174 which is also a 8c, not a obs view Ver. No SR on this one either.

When do you sail? I hope the room is good. I feel we booked this so early I would be really disappointed if it wasnt a great room.

We are booked on the Magic out of NY in August. Right now we are booked in an inside room. I asked our TA to check the price of a verandah & she told me $1384 more than what we are paying now which is $4038. We are 82 days out from sailing. What are the chances of us paying for an upgrade at the port? i have looked on Disney 's website & there are quite a few verandah s left still. Hoping for some pixiedust!

Personally, I'm just happy to be on the ship...If they made up a bed in the laundry room, I'd probably sleep there! lol

I was in 7022 on The Fantasy and the "obstruction" was not an issue. There was still plenty of room for 2 chairs and a small table.

the right side had the partial obstruction with the ship's exterior extending on an angle from the floor to the ceiling.

Mickeyluv: We are leaving from NYC next Saturday and a friend who was a former travel agent recommended that I try for an upgrade after the PIF date. It totally worked and we upgraded from an oceanview to a veranda really really cheap. It was significantly cheaper than what we were quoted during our original booking. We got some nice pixie dust. We didn't want to wait until we got to port in case all the verandas were sold out. So I recommend giving that a try. It may not be as big of a discount as waiting till you arrive at port, but it never hurts to call.
