Are the obstructed view rooms that bad?

I was in 7022 on The Fantasy and the "obstruction" was not an issue. There was still plenty of room for 2 chairs and a small table.

the right side had the partial obstruction with the ship's exterior extending on an angle from the floor to the ceiling.

I was in the same cabin but on the Dream here is my review i did:

This room was great. It is port side! It was a cat 5c at the time i sailed but due to a slight over hang causing a obstructed view from the veranda it was down graded to a 7A. The obstruction did not bother me. I actually used it to my benefit. We had some bad wind and rain on our cruise and i was able to sit out on the veranda in the blocked area and still have a great view of the ocean and stayed pretty dry. We also moved the veranda chairs in the area so they would be dry later to sit in. This room is great and I have booked 7520 that is just like this room only on the starboard side of the ship!

Mickeyluv: We are leaving from NYC next Saturday and a friend who was a former travel agent recommended that I try for an upgrade after the PIF date. It totally worked and we upgraded from an oceanview to a veranda really really cheap. It was significantly cheaper than what we were quoted during our original booking. We got some nice pixie dust. We didn't want to wait until we got to port in case all the verandas were sold out. So I recommend giving that a try. It may not be as big of a discount as waiting till you arrive at port, but it never hurts to call.

Thanks so much for posting! It's nice to hear some positive feedback (gives me hope :goodvibes). If you don't mind me asking....

1. So how close to your cruise date did you upgrade? OR did you call to upgrade right after your PIF date? Our PIF date is June 3rd.
2. Looking at the price I was quoted to upgrade to a veranda from an inside was your price difference comparable? (if you don't mind telling me what you had to actually pay just for the upgrade that would be GREAT!)

Thanks again so much!!

Personally, I'm just happy to be on the ship...If they made up a bed in the laundry room, I'd probably sleep there! lol

So true! 
