Are the current deals changing your mind?

Are the incentives being offered by Disney for cash paying customers (eg. buy 4 get 3 or the cruise discounts) changing your mind about whether to use or bank points?

I find myself wondering why they don't offer DVC owners discounts on points usage (or exchange for DCL).

Just wondering.

I honestly did not expect "deals" when we bought DVC. If we want some of those specials, we can book them. I wish the economy would be better right now.

Someone, maybe Dean, said that the point system set up doesn't allow for discounts or specials. Heck, I'm still annoyed that DVC began charging us $95 to book Disney resorts! Every so often, I mention that to a MS satisfaction person, they are always so willing to explain their rationale to me, but they will never convince me that they "have to."

If you guys can lobby for specials, I'll try to use them, but I won't hold my breath.

Nope!

Disney hotel pricing is not in line with the quality of the hotel they offer. So IMHO they "marked it up" to "put it on sale" It's kind of like if your local store marked up an item 100% and then took 50% off... Still overpriced LOL!

I don't think with the point system it would be possible to offer "stays for less points. The whole system is based on having the maximum number of points at a resort that can be used in a year. Letting people stay 7 days for a 4 day booking would throw the whole system out of wack.

I didn't expect any deals either. And I wouldn't have expected some of the offers Disney is promoting due to the economy(especially the cruise discounts).
It has just caused me to pause to think about whether it makes sense to bank my remaining 2009 points for use next year when the cash deals probably won't be available.

No, because these are short term offerings, DVC is a long term committment. All these deals work out to be are % Discounts, and I think Disney even has stated that it works out to a 25% - 35% discount. DVC offers a much larger discount over time. Hotel rooms also increase in price every year (even in 2009 they did) and you a nice 12.5% tax to pay on the room, which is still due on the offer.

True.
But they could offer incentives for trade-outs (Disney hotels or cruises).

Staying in a one bedroom at OKW vs. a regular hotel room - sorry we are too spoiled.

Not really, because those deals are still available to me. I can always bank my points, and take advantage of the offers if they are too good to pass up.

To me, it's real estate. I purchased property that I now have access to when I want to travel. Just like my home here, I don't expect perks.

When I originally saw the 4/3 deal, it kind of ran through my mind of why doesn't that happen with our stuff, but the more I think of it, it's totally different. We're not paying Disney, per se. We pay/paid the mortgage and the property fees.

But they can not do much of that, either. remember a trade-out requires your points being used for a fairly normal cash price of your DVC room reservation to pay for your cruise or other disney hotel. You might get a trade of a 1BR for a "normal" deluxe cash room, but would you want to give up the space? Think about what can you, as a points owner, bring to the table in this ecomony?

And actually this fall, they did offer DVC cruise on points the "bounceback" fall cruise at a much discounted points level..

You bring up a good point for those that own homes. Do people get upset when they see a local apartment rental place offering a free month of rent and wish their mortgage company would give them a discount? Probably not.

I guess the moderator can close this thread as I think it has already run its course.

I don't think my original post didn't really convey my question. Which was really about banking vs using points (not changing your mind about ownership).

And my point about why wouldn't Disney offer point exchange incentives was that their goal was to fill the parks and ships(especially parks) for the cash that is spent. That is what is brought to the table.

It depends on how you look at DVC. If you look at it as I do....a prepaid deluxe 1,2, or 3 bedroom villa at WDW for up to 50 years, then NO, the "deals" make no sense for me to use. I've already paid for accommodations, I don't need to pay more just because somebody is waving a carrot in front of my nose. Besides, there is no way I'm going to go back to staying in a regular hotel room after 12 years of DVC villas!:rotfl:
