Are the CS credits for kids and adults pooled or separate?

Famlies split up. Sometimes a kids skips a meal and sometimes an adult skip a meal. That can lead to honest confusion.

A family decides not to "waste" kids credits on kids CS meals. The family decides to pay cash for every kids meal they order. Not honest confusion. This family knew, planned, on the total number of kids meals purchased with kids credits will be zero.

Yes, that is clear, but even for honest folks, not trying to get away with anything, with there being no distinction in the credits on the receipts that the guests get, unless you are keeping a running tab of every counter service meal purchased for every member of the party, sometimes you really don't know how many of the remaining credits listed on the bottom of your latest receipt are adult and how many are child credits. Maybe some people do that, keep tallies written somewhere of what was used when, but that's a little too much like work to me. I did use the DDP spreadsheet when I was planning the trip, but as often happens when traveling with kids and an elderly grandparent, we didn't totally follow 'the plan' and ended up changing our dining plans almost every day, and we shared CS much more than I thought we would because we just weren't that hungry.

All I'm saying is that I can see how well-meaning people might inadvertently misuse their credits, either child credits for adult meals, or even adult credits for child meals, which I think I did yesterday. We had several credits left over yesterday before we left so we decided to get sandwiches to take the airport and once I was on the plane and mentally going back over what credits we used where, I figured out we used an adult credit for a child meal, and still had a couple adult credits left. I don't think Disney should have a problem with my using an adult credit for a child meal, but had they told me I was out of child credits, I would have gladly paid the $3.99 or whatever it was for the kids grilled cheese meal my DD 6 wanted.

I am actually in a different situation. My DD10 will be an adult on the DDP but will most likely only eat from the kids menu. So, in essence, we will be paying $39 each day for the kids menu items. Will the servers just assume she is a child and use all our child credits up? What happens then? I know it won't matter when we hit the buffets, but how about other TS places?

If you have child meal credits (presumably from a younger child) then you should make that clear at the time you order, i.e., specifically ask for an exception to allow your DD10 to order a child meal with her regular Dining Plan credit. Otherwise, you could end up with all regular Dining Plan credits left, and no child credits, and then, though unlikely, you could hit a restaurant that won't allow you to do the exchange (even though it is to Disney's advantage).

If you have to pay for her as an adult and she will only eat from the kids menu then I would use her TS credits for adult meals--since thats what you are paying for and just pay oop for her meals. $39 is a lot of money for mac n cheese.

Would they let me do that? It sounds reasonable, but they may think we are trying to work the system...

I love the DDP - we have done it for two trips already. I just don't like the age cut-off for when a child becomes and adult. It is already a huge amount of food and assumes that 10yos should eat like adults. I know some do eat like adults, but mine does not... oh well. I still like the plan!

Thanks for your help!

Well it sounds like they are trying to avoid ppl paying the kids price and the plan and then ordering adult meals.

I dont know how many of you are going but your dd is going to be listed as an adult. I just think its a waste to pay adult price and then she will only eat off the kids menu. I dont see a problem or any breaking of the rules to use the adult plan for adult meals. Just tell them ahead of time you are paying out of pocket for hers.

I agree, the latter is an example of totally trying to get what you know you did not pay for, simply because as of right now, you still can. I really hope the credits are once and for all officially separated as they are for TS because then there will be no honest confusion and no calculated scamming.

There are 5 of us: me, DH, DD10, DD7 and DS4. I guess we'll get a sense of what is acceptable when we get there! I do understand your point. Since we paid for adult meals, we should use her credit for just that-an adult meal. I guess we will try to pay OOP for her kids meal, if that's what she chooses to eat.

Thanks again!

I love the DDP as well, but this trip we just got back from may be the last time we use it for a while. My oldest is 13 and we basically shared CS meals or at the TS places where he ordered for himself, he left more than half of it. To have one child do that is not that big of a deal, I still think we more than got our money's worth out of the plan, but my other DS was 9 this trip, so he will be an 'adult' diner next time we are at WDW and I'm not sure it will be worth it to pay $38+ a day for two of them to graze on food or just want what's on the kids menu. I'll just have to run the numbers when we are planning the next trip and see if it's going to be a good value for us.

Yes. Snack credits are available for use by anyone in the party.

Can my DD"s 5 and 6 use my snack credits? I don't usually eat snacks.

Yup, there is no distinction on snacks and no limit as to how many you can use at once (as far as we encountered). We were so full from all the food, we didn't get many food snacks. We ended up using most for PowerAde and Water.

Every TS place we dined verified our kids' ages when we checked in. They were on the reservation from when I made our ADR's. I don't know whether they would let her order from the kids' menu for the kids' price or not, from what I've read on other posts' that seems to be at the particular restaurant's discretion.

Thats true it is up to the restaurant but we never had a problem doing that. I ordered a kids meal for myself at Sci Fi (I didnt really care much for the stuff on the adult menu) and they let me do on more than one occasion with no problems.

and here am I...I have the opposite problem...a FOUR year old (he'll be five when we go to WDW) who can eat like an adult (and he's TOTALLY SKINNY)!!! Probably not a FULL adult meal, but definitely MORE than a kid meal. I guess it all evens out b/c my almost three year old doesn't eat a whole lot - and usually passes food along to his brother :rotfl:

lol...just realized no one has posted to this in almost a month - oops

To add to your question, I know a popular use of CS credits is for the Main Street Bakery--2 items and a beverage for one credit. Can you do this in any of the other parks? For example, Kusafari Coffee Shop and Bakery in AK, Starring Rolls or Cup o' Joe To Go in MGM, anywhere in Epcot?

This question was asked earlier in the thread and I am still waiting to hear an answer. Can anyone out there help?

Tina

We will need to save some credits for our last day as we dont leave till around 5p.m. I can see having more kids cs left than adult. So say for example we have 5 kids cs left could we get 5 kids breakfast plates at the hotel and the 5 of us eat thator would there be a problem as we are 4 adults in disneys eyes??

Probably not, at least at this time.

You can ask at the restaurant. I have ordered a childs meal for myself more than one time at Sci Fi and it wasnt a problem.

::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

I hope they do it before our trip in July. Keeping track of all of my credits makes my head spin!:scared:
