I have owned real crocs for myself for the last few years and I love them. In fact, I have literally worn them out by constant use (and I live in the northeast where it is too cold to wear a chunk of each year, so that is saying something).
When I first considered crocs, bought a pair of Airwalks from Payless...they seemed okay at the store and on a trial run at home. But as soon as my real crocs arrived in the mail, those from Payless were returned. I think imitation are probably fine if you had not had real, but I think it would be hard to go back. The price of crocs is really very reasonable when you consider the price of so many shoes on the market. I used to be a big Ked sneaker wearer and those cost about the same.
Now for the kids I have bought them the airwalk from Payless, and all 4 have been very happy. Kids grow so fast and none of mine have feet issues at this point so the knock offs have been fine. My toddler especially has LOVED these shoes and she was said when the weather turned colder and I put them away (plus she had outgrown them)
My older kids still wear their "crocs" if the weather turns mild. In fact, I just bought one kid another pair of "crocs" from Payless since it has been such a mild fall/winter season here and he fell in love with a pair of camoflouge crocs. That is another plus to payless, they have some fun, creative designs for the kiddos.
