Exactly. I guess the whole point of vandalizing specific cars and dealerships is to create (semi-)irrational fear. It's working. I am worried, and that's not fair.

I agree its not fair, but its the reality. Mitigating a risk to personal safety or in this case the safety of your car is something that is just part of day to day life for many people.

I agree to some extent. But if cars start getting vandalized at Disney, that would be terrible for guests and Disney, too. Disney as a brand has relatively more to lose than my local Publix, in my opinion.

Having more visible cameras and notices that guests are under surveillance in the lots would improve the perception (and reality) of guest safety. The "security theater" practiced by the resorts at the gates is sometimes annoying, but I'm sure it improves perceived and actual guest safety. Reminding guests that they are being watched in the lots would do the same.

Yes, I realize that leaving my car in my garage is the only way to reduce risk to 0%. I could get a flat tire just backing out of my driveway.

But I think mitigating the risk where possible while still getting on with things is a reasonable compromise. For example, I wonder if cars are safer in Disney Spring's parking structures than the open lots elsewhere on Disney property?

Why would they? It's perfectly legal in FL to carry a weapon as long as you're not a prohibited person. I feel safer in a Publix in FL than I do in the parking lot at the parks where I know myself and any other law abiding citizens are disarmed.

I own a Tesla. I never considered that to be a political statement. I just really like the car.

I'm also a passholder and visit Disney a lot. Keyed paint is unsightly and costly to fix.

Serious question: should I be worried that someone might intentionally damage my car while I'm parked on Disney property?

Well, actually, folks in the parking lots are not disarmed. If you pay the parking fee, you can drive your car into the lot loaded up with weapons and nobody will question you. You just can't bring them into the parks or Disney Springs. Actually, I've often wondered about this, because there are often crowds of people waiting in line for transportation or screening, and they do seem to be somewhat exposed.

That said, having more visible cameras in the parking lots and other areas like that on Disney property would still make me feel somewhat safer. But not against people that are willing to go to jail anyway, obviously. It's a difficult question. I don't know the answer.

Being mindful of the rules here. Its not about the product, the actual car or the system of electric vehicles and their impact on the environment. Its about the person who created and owned the company. The cars are just an easy an accessible way to make a public display about the company in general and the owner specifically.

Owning a tesla car does not equate to agreeing or disagreeing with the owner of the company.

Honestly, part of the reason I looked into buying my Tesla was because it was more energy efficient. When I used to work for Kelly Blue Book, the whole office was in love with Teslas and in awe of Musk. A bunch of us stood in line when they first opened up reservations for the Model 3, and we all thought we were "saving the world" or something. I just don't get it, either. But I still love my car, and I've even named it after one of my pets. It's never done anything to hurt anyone, so please don't key it!

IMO, there's just as much risk at Disney of a specific car being vandalized as there is at any public parking. If it's going to bother/worry you, don't bring your car. Rent/uber/taxi, whatever.

I would be surprised if Disney DIDN'T have security cameras on any parking lots. Whether they'd use them for a claim of vandalism is a different story.

One reason why Disney has highly visible security when entering their parks is because it makes guests feel safer and they ARE safer because it deters bad behavior. Visible security in Disney's parking lots would do the same. Maybe they do have security cameras, but the more people are aware of that fact, the more effective they will be.

I would much rather that people not even think about doing bad things for fear of being caught, rather than having to worry about catching them or submitting an insurance claim after the fact.

I'm sure there are cameras in the Disney parking lots. BUT... your Tesla has cameras. If you make sure you've got a good charge, leave Sentry Mode on, and you'll have video if something does happen.

I will say, there are a LOT of Teslas at Disney every time we go (though we haven't been recently/in this climate).

There are a few chargers not too far off property. We make a habit of charging up every few days, as needed, either before/after we hit the parks, or as an afternoon break at a hot Animal Kingdom (there's a Wawa with chargers not that far away from AK). Though, we go with annual passes several times in a year, so we don't mind a little later entry or earlier evening.

If you don't want to take charge time, you might need to turn off sentry mode, though... there are a lot of people passing by those cars!

Yes, I'm somewhat local (not Orlando.) I agree that security is mostly good at WDW, but they only check for weapons at the gate. And, anyway, keys are not weapons per se. I believe they have good video surveillance in the parking garages, but not sure about the open lots (do they?)

If you are worried, I'd send them a message and ask. I would think that the area by the chargers is likely to have more surveillance anyway (for the chargers), but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Yes, you are right! There probably would be more surveillance near the chargers. There were news reports about Tesla superchargers being a target of vandalism. But Disney chargers are not Tesla specific, so hopefully they wouldn't be a target, right?

Aren't you more concerned about getting into a serious accident driving your Tesla to the parks? 40,000 people are killed and millions severely injured every year in car accidents. If you are concerned about safety I wouldn't drive a car to the parks. Vandalism is the least of your concerns.
