Are Teslas safe in Disney parking lots?

I own a Tesla. I never considered that to be a political statement. I just really like the car.

I'm also a passholder and visit Disney a lot. Keyed paint is unsightly and costly to fix.

Serious question: should I be worried that someone might intentionally damage my car while I'm parked on Disney property?

I wouldn't think so (would certainly hope not), however this is coming from someone who most definitely would not own/keep a Tesla at this point.

I certainly hope the majority of our population are decent human beings but it does seem questionable these days.

Hopefully visiting Disney brings out the best in people.
But, I'm wondering if parking garages might further encourage good will towards fellow guests, as they might have more cameras and surveillance?

No way of knowing but I will say, no matter what you drive, scratches happen. I always drive to WDW and I can tell you through the years I've gotten a number of scratches and dings on my cars. People aren't paying attention and open their doors and hit yours or drag stuff over them or even accidently back into them a little. It happens just like it does at any public parking lot.

Are you worried if/when you go to a mall, grocery store, theater, sporting event, or any of many other things one does and leave their car in a public parking lot? If not, why would you have specific concerns about Disney?

If so, do you think someone is paying for parking lot access at Disney in order to vandalize Teslas? Or are you worried about someone en route to a park, seeing a Tesla and thinking "oh, I'm going to vandalize that car"?

IMO, I wouldn't worry about it. If you do choose to worry about it, then don't bring the Tesla.

Yes, I do also worry somewhat about the grocery store and mall, lately. Those places, and the local resorts (Disney and Universal) are all we visit, lately.

But, Disney is kind of unique compared to our local grocery stores and malls. My daughter and I often play a game counting all of the various out-of-state license plates in Disney's parking lots: it's really quite remarkable how many there are! Canadian, too.

Just trying to be real, here: I'm not aware of any Floridian Tesla showroom getting vandalized (or worse) recently. But I've seen the news, and it's been happening elsewhere. I am concerned that Disney is potentially more likely to have a guest looking to damage my car than my local Publix just based on the number of out-of-state license plates given what I've seen in the news.

I'd be very happy if my fears are 100% unfounded. I also have faith in the basic goodness of my fellow Disney guests. But I've also seen videos of guest misbehavior, so there's that...

PS, we only have one car, so we'd have to Uber. Or maybe park at Disney Springs, if the enclosed parking lot is safer.

I don’t know if Teslas are “safe” anywhere right now. Dealerships are being vandalized here in Canada. :sad2: Crazy times we’re living in.

Maybe I live a sheltered life, but vandalism is not something I associate with Canada.

Sadly we have our share; mostly as a misguided form of political protest (churches burned, O&G infrastructure damaged, LGBTQ symbols and historical monuments defaced etc.). :( You can probably guess what’s inflaming the anti-Tesla sentiments right now.

If this is your concern for short term parking, then my concern would be at Disney you are doing long term parking. You will be away from your car for many hours which gives a higher risk of something happening to it. At the end of a long park day, it would be horrible to get back to your car and see something has happened, with no way of knowing who or when it happened.

I hope people don't bring those feelings to Disney. Disney should be a safe place where all are welcome and all are friends.

Unfortunately what Disney should be and what Disney is often very different. How many times do we hear about things been taken from strollers or even strollers going missing. People dont change their nature just because they scan into a Disney park. Good people in day to day life will be good people in a Disney park. Not good people in day to day life will be not so good in a Disney park.

To me it's a "worry about the things you can control". If you want an absolutely 0% chance that your car gets vandalized, then don't take it.

I agree the odds are not zero that your car would be vandalized, but I do think they would be insignificant.

I think if you are going to unduly worry about your vehicle make other arrangements. Otherwise go and have fun. I'm not sure what to make of the philosophy comments.
Disney appeals to a wide variety of individuals. It's unlikely we are all friends. Hopefully a number of us visiting there are are reasonably polite to one another.

I think I would be less concerned at WDW than I would be in other parts of the city, state, country. If I'm reading correctly you're an Orlando local? I'd be more concerned at the non tourist spots like Publix than I would be at a tourist spot.

Yes, I realize that leaving my car in my garage is the only way to reduce risk to 0%. I could get a flat tire just backing out of my driveway.

But I think mitigating the risk where possible while still getting on with things is a reasonable compromise. For example, I wonder if cars are safer in Disney Spring's parking structures than the open lots elsewhere on Disney property?

Yes, I'm somewhat local (not Orlando.) I agree that security is mostly good at WDW, but they only check for weapons at the gate. And, anyway, keys are not weapons per se. I believe they have good video surveillance in the parking garages, but not sure about the open lots (do they?)

If you have these thoughts in your head now, before going to Disney, will you be able to relax and enjoy the parks? Will your thoughts be for the whole day, OMG I hope the car is ok instead of enjoying the Disney experience with your family / friends?

Exactly. I guess the whole point of vandalizing specific cars and dealerships is to create (semi-)irrational fear. It's working. I am worried, and that's not fair.
