Are some cabins in better locations??

I'm soooo excited Me and my girlfriends are staying at the cabins Aug 2-9. I havent stayed on property in a long while and I can't wait. We're using ME to get there. Woo Hoo!! I wanted to find out if some cabins are in better locations than others. If so then maybe I'll fax a request for a preference.

Does anyone have any info on this?

Like a lot of things, it depends on who you ask. Some people might like to be where it is quiet. Some might like to be in the middle of the action. Some might like to be near the pool, some not.

There is a sticky at the top of this Board that has a map of the campground.
The cabin loops are 2100-2800 on the map. 2100 is the closest to the camping loops, 2500 and 2600 are closest to the cabin pool and laundry room.

In general, folks without cars prefer to be near the front of their loop, as there will be a shorter walk to the bus stops. But the trade off is that your cabin might back up to the road and/or bus stop, and that might create some minor traffic noise issues. In general, the cabins toward the back of each loop are quieter.

Overall, there is really not much advantage or disadvantage to the locations of the cabin loops. They are all kind of the same.

I suggest that you take a look at the map, pick a loop, and go for it.

We're getting ready to book our first stay at the FW Cabins - - and figure a cabin closest to the Magic Kingdom Boat Launch would be most convenient, although it seems like it could be noisier in that area. How does the process work where you request a certain area? You mentioned fax. Also, any idea what the likelihood is you'll get your wish?

I saw a post that mentioned that you can request a certain campsite (not guaranteed) So I figured that you could do the same for a cabin.

Wow! That's a nice deal with Free Dining. Unfortunately DW is a schoolteacher and we typically only can go during peak times (not after 8/15). Thanks for the info on the Cabin request. I think we'll give that a try. Most of our Park time will be at MK so I think proximity to the MK transportation will be key.

While there are 2 cabins in the 100 loop (which is very close to the marina, and yes, very noisy) you can't request those. You have to just luck out and get them from what I've heard.

Here's the rundown on the cabin loops from AllEars:

2100 loop - 44 cabins;
2200 loop - 44 cabins;
2300 loop - 30 cabins;
2400 loop - 49 cabins;
2500 loop - 33 cabins;
2600 loop - 65 cabins;
2700 loop - 72 cabins;
2800 loop - 70 cabins

any idea what the likelihood is you'll get your wish?

Really depends a lot on when you're going it seems. We've always had good luck with loop/site requests, but we go during the slower weeks in early Dec.

DH and I stayed in cabin #118 and while it was a little noisy it was not obnoxiously so. Awesome location!

No, I'm just a regular person who got lucky. Sad thing, I didn't even realize that 118 was one of the 2 celebrity/VIP cabins until I got home!

It'll probably never happen again.

We were just there last week (15-21) for our first time and we had cabin 2238. I thought the location was very good.
The walk to the bus stop was 2 minutes and buses came quit often. We could take either the purple or the orange and the orange went to the pool over at WL. I don't think we waited more than 10 minutes for a bus (the internal buses anyway).
We brought our bikes and the ride to the medows trading post was just a few minutes also. I used the Laundry one time and just rode the bike over to the comfort station and it just took a minute.
Now the buses to other places was a different story. We waited 50 minutes for a bus to Downtown Disney one night and waited 30 minutes for a bus to get back from WL.
Overall I would say that our location was great.

I have found that it is better to drive to DTD. Even when we stayed at other resorts. It has always taken a long time.

I heard a rumor that the cabins are on wheels, or were brought in on wheels, or something about wheels(did I mention I have been drinking). Based on that, I think you can move these thought to be stationary vehicles anywhere you want. Location is up to you, though I would recommend something with an already mapped out escape route. It may be in the rules you can't, but we all know there are many rules at disney that are not followed(start one about a teenager on a golf cart if you don't believe me).

If you discover that the wheels have indeed been removed, head to the local wally world and simple purchase a floor jack and six skate boards. Oh yeah, you will need a gold cart also, have a teenager drive it if there is one in your group, this will increase the odds that you will not have the Disney PoPo(police for you country folk) yell at you.

OMG that's too funny!!! Woulda never thought of that!! Okay, I'm RIGHT next to the busses!!! How'd that get there?

On a lighter note, I'm staying at a cabin in September, and it really doesn't matter where we are, we'll probably drive to most places anyways, so no biggie on that part!!

Hey...just some food for thought......if the "free dining" isnt an option for you because of the time you're able to travel (because of job schedule) you may want to give some thought to staying in a rented camper and having the whole campground to choose a loop from. There's a regular poster here by the name of "tinah159" who rents out her 5th wheel camper...its very large...sleeps up to 9 people. She will deliver the camper to your Fort Wilderness site,set it up,show you how everything works...all you have to do is "move in for the week", all the hassels of camping are deleted, AND its considerably cheaper than renting the cabins. You can save enough money to rent a golf cart for your stay and not have to worry about catching the internal buses...the golf carts are alot of fun.

We stayed at the cabins in December, and when we got off the bus for the first time I looked at the #s to the left and #s to the right and decided that the #s were going up (?) if we walked to the right (?) and we walked and walked and walked.... get this, it is LATE @ night our first night and we are tired from the flight etc.... and we walk some more... FINALLY the cabin! Only to see the next morning in the daylight that if we had gone the OTHER way, we would have only passed about 12-13 cabins as opposed to the 58-60 we passed the route we went!!! The cabins were super awesome, and we had thought we may have needed to use the comfort stations to get ready in the mornings, but turned out we took turns and the people who were early-risers got ready early first, and then when we needed to do our hair the next person took the bathroom over while the first was fixing their hair in the bedroom. Then the next one would switch out... It only took about an hour for 5 of us to get ready....

LOL, our first stay at the All Stars we had 4 people for 10 days, LOTS of luggage, on the 3rd floor, after a 12 hour drive. We carried every piece up the stairs then came out to look around and found the elevators.
