Are shakes at Sci Fi included on the Dining Plan?

If so is it counted at a drink or dessert? Can children get them or only adults, or the child one is smaller?

I need this info to decide if this is where I'll pay OOP or at a breakfast buffet.

Thanks, Calie

Definitely not offered as a drink at least to us. I heard the couple seated behind us ask if they could have a shake as a dessert with DDP and the answer they were given is yes.
For the record, I usually don't eavesdrop...they were in the same "car" as us and ordering at the same time :)

This might be something up to the discretion of the server- last Sept. when we were there if you wanted a shake it counted as your dessert. Anyone been there recently?

I agree, it may be up to the server.
Yes, I was there recently...Wednesday the 16th and our server told us only the reg. drinks (soda, coffee, etc) could count as drinks. It was that same night that the couple behind us asked about getting a shake for dessert and were told yes as a dessert.
Some TS let us get smoothies and specialty drinks and others specifically told us no. Actually, now that I go back through my dining experiences it was the first half of our trip in which we paid for the DDP that we were given the smoothie options. Once the free dining promo. started we were no longer offered speciality drinks. Maybe it was a coincidence. :confused3

We had sodas for our beverages, and were also told that a milkshake could be the dessert.

I think your intuition is correct about the free dining! Last year before free dining some places would allow smoothie as beverage (i.e. Le Cellier) then once free dining started that was no longer an option. This is last years info. so I don't want to stear anyone wrong here, but we did get smoothies at 1900 Park Faire and Boma.

The one thing about the shakes at Sci-Fi- they were really excellent- my DH had his with his meal and I had mine "to go" at dessert time. I think I got more in my to go styrofoam cup than he did in his glass one. And as a side note, I was so full after appie and meal, I couldn't have done both dessert and shake anyway. As it was, my DD5 drank most of it then complained about how full she was!!!

I know that was a typo but, I just got a mental image of a sod shake.:rotfl2: Okay, okay, I'm easily amused.

Hi, we just got back from Disney today. We ate at Sci Fi on Thursday for lunch. I asked about the shakes. Our server said that the adults could get a shake as a drink and/or a dessert but if the kids ordered a shake that counted as their drink and dessert. I got a shake for my drink and the cheesecake for dessert. DS got regular drink and the shake for dessert.

Will post reviews and pictures in next few days. :sunny:

We received ours as our beverages. They wee also the same way as beverages at Le Cellier(smoothies) and WCC;)

Uggg, I sure wish they could be consistant. It would work great if I could get it as a drink and share with DD, it would even work great if she could get it as her dessert or drink or both. Actually the only way it doesn't work is if it is only included as an adult dessert or not at all cause I don't want to give up an adult dessert and have to order a kiddie sundae to share.

Maybe I'll just get an adult burger, shake, & dessert pay OOP and share with DD :confused3 Anyone know how much the shake is OOP?

Thanks for the replies, Calie

Well dang it, now I'm cancelling my ADR there since there's no sod shake!!! :lmao: :lmao:

I think the lack of sod shakes at WDW is another symptom of the dining plan. It used to be that you could get a sod shake almost anywhere. Now, you cannot even get an ADR for the few places that do offer sod. Its become a disgrace. I think if I want a good sod shake, I am just going to have to stay home. ;) :rotfl2:

ITA!! If they don't start redeeming themselves with these sod shakes, I'm taking my vacation money elsewhere! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We were there tonight. I didn't want a dessert since there is way too much food and the server brought out a shake for us to take in the parks with us. We didn't order appetizers either. She kept saying that you paid for it so why not have it so she brought things for us to try which was good, but it really was a waste of food. I don't know why she wouldn't just take no for an answer! Maybe it has to do with the tip??

In Feb the shake was offered on the plan for adults as a beverage but not for children.

Part of it might have but also if you've paid for it I kind of agree that you may as well try it. I always order something and then just ask for it to go and eat it later as a evening snack.

The tips on the plan are Grat so the higher the bill the more tip. Bare in mind that most TS people are on around $3 an hour so they live off tips
