Are reservations necessary?

Is it a good idea to make restaurant reservations before we go? I have been thinking about where would be nice for us to eat at but I think I would prefer to decide on the day rather than tie ourselves to a time and place beforehand. Am I asking for trouble doing it like that? We will be there midweek in the first week of October.

We have never booked before we go and never had any trouble getting the restaurant we want and we have always been at very busy times.

However saying that we have usually booked the day before rather than leaving it to the day.

I think you'll be OK as it wont be as busy when you go (hopefully) but if there is somewhere you want to eat and would be disappointed if you couldnt get in at a particular time it might be worth booking.

Also dont forget you can always cancel a booking as you dont pay any thing in advance

We never book untill we get there, and have never had any problems with getting what we want... You can book at the hotel when you arrive...

Another who has never booked in advance, even in the height of summer.
In the case of Lucky Nugget Saloon we walked up at 5pm for a 6pm sitting

I'm glad to hear this, I am going midweek 2nd week of october and don't really want to have a rigid plan of what we want to do. I think i might just book lunch at lucky nugget before we go and do everything else whilst we are there. i think the only other one that is reservable of my choices though is inventions, as RFC and annettes i don't think take reservations

I'm going first week in October, midweek, and the only dinner reservation I'm going to make in advance is for dinner at Cafe Mickey, and thats only for the first day, as I know what time etc we'll probably want to eat that day.

The rest of the time, no, I won't book anything in advance.
