Are resale DVC members eligible for cash room discounts?

We are looking into purchasing DVC and are leaning towards resale points due to the cost difference and how much we would use the direct only perks. Are cash stay discounts only for direct buyers or everyone? How easy is it to grab something with a cash discount if you are not picky on the resort and is the discount always 25% off rack rates?

Yes, booking a cash room via DVC is available to all members. However, there is not always DVC rooms available for the discount,

It must be booked via MS and it is not the same as what you may see via the Disney website. There have been times when there is nothing available.

Another question--i just recently bought direct -- i've been looking on the regular disneyworld website that i always used in the past to see about adding a night or two before my dvc stay along with tickets. However, nothing shows as available when i log in with my account. On the other hand, when i don't log in, there are several different hotels available. Now that i am a DVC member, is the only way to book a cash stay to book via DVC? or does it mean there is nothing available for a discount? so confused at the moment

There is no restriction on booking direct from Disney (disneyworld.com, TA, etc.) either at rack rate or using any publicly available discount.

If you book cash through DVC, it can only be for a DVC resort and the member cash discount might not be available (even if a room is).

Thanks for the clarification! Is the discount always the same if there are rooms available or does it vary by season and resort?

It's always 25% off rack rate of the villa (not the hotel room), and it does not vary by season or resort. From what I've read, availability is generally pretty limited.

Would anyone be willing to check Hilton Head the week 10/31 -11/7 for me for cash rate availability? We have a contract pending but with ROFR I know it will be cutting it close to become members by then. If nothing is even open for cash DVC it will one less thing for me to stress over!

We don’t allow posts of availability here. First, someone would have to call and second, even if they said nights were available today it doesn’t mean they will be when you can book and vice versa.

Even cash room availability change often.

Let me just make sure I am getting this. (Soooo much stuff to learn about DVC)

This thread is discussing DVC members (whether purchase was direct or resale) being eligible for discount paying cash for DVC villa rooms? NOT regular hotel rooms?
Is there generally a discount offered for hotel rooms to DVC members?

DVC members do not get any special discount for hotel rooms,

As mentioned, the discount on DVC villas...which is through MS and not Disney..is not always available and there are certain rooms that never do.

and they only have a certain number of rooms allocated to the discount

I did not know about this either! Is any DVC member able to get this, or just Blue Card holders?

Any member can call and ask. Again, they are not always available and some never are,

The nice thing about going through MS vs, Disney is they can add it to a points reservation as one continuous.

I did it about 7 years ago and then waitlisted the night for points. When it came through, they replaced the cash night and I was refunded!

From your experience which resorts are never available? I am so torn on how many points we would like and would rather go smaller than too big, but also don't want the hassle of managing multiple contracts if we add on. I am sure I am overthinking it all but I am try to consider where we usually stay, season, etc, etc

I have heard BW and SV at BWV, AKv value and concierge, and grand villas at many places,

I would be surprised to ever see CCVs, other than 1 bedrooms maybe.

Again, it is hit or miss and given the glut of points, who knows if they will offer any for cash. I would not go in assuming one can get cash nights as part of the plan.

I do think SSR and OKW are easier and I once was going to be able to get a BLT LV studio but when I went to get it, my waitlist had matched so no need.

It might be all of them are not available when you want to book a stay on cash. Or they might all be available. You don't know until you try to book. Usually if you can't book it for points, you probably can't book it for cash through MS either.

Actually, that is not true, I have booked a cash night when not available for points while I was waitlisted,

So, cash bookings do not follow the trends of points bookings all the time.

🙂That's good to know! Disney always seems to keep us guessing!

I would rather add a few nights with cash when we want to take a trip than have more points than we can use, it is such a dangerous line with DVC points and trips-the more I have--the more I will want to go, lol
