Are pantyhose a thing of the past?

My neice is getting married today at 2. She told her mom last night not to wear pantyhose to the wedding.

My sister and I thought this was a strange request.

Are pantyhose outdated? If this a fashion no no??

There are some people (especially younger people) who think they are horrid. There are others (like me) who don't.

But telling your mother what she is and is not to wear is still improper, no matter where you stand on the issue.

I would never ask someone NOT to wear them, but I do everything in the world to avoid wearing them myself. Ugh.

I haven't worn them in probably 10 years. I remember my mom used to own like 30 pairs of them.

I will always wear pantyhose or tights when I dress up. I have ugly legs, downright scary :scared1: , so there is no way my legs will go bare in a dress for a formal occasion.

Thanks for the replies. I felt pretty much the same. I do still wear them especially in the winter time.

:lmao: Your kidding right. I tell my mom what is horrible & my kids tell me what is horrible.

Panty hose are starting to become outdated. I am in banking and this year we received a new dress code stating that nylons are now optional. Of course hemlines on skirts and desses are now required to be a little longer.
As for the daughter's comment to her mother, it all depends on their relationship and how it was said. My mom and I are very close and we are always honest with our opinions. If she asked me not to wear something to a particular function, I wouldn't and vise-versa. If I can't get an honest opinion out of my mom, who can I trust? She expects the same from me.

I have spider veins and as much as I hate to admit it, cellulite. My skin tone is awful. Not a pretty sight. I doubt anyone would argue and tell me my legs look better without pantyhose. You personally may not like pantyhose or you might look great without them, not everyone feels the same way.

This is one of those items I categorize as a personal decision, just like underwear ;) .

Like it or not, we are required to wear them at work if we have a skirt or dress on. No bare legs for us. If we have on pants, we have to wear socks or panty hose or something. No bare feet either.

I wear them in the fall/winter to church with a dress or a skirt. Everyone else seems to, except the teenagers, who wear flipflops in the snow!

So does this mean that when you wear a skirt or dress in the winter you go with bare legs? Or is there something else I am missing?

I'm starting to feel old for the first time. Will this be like when we took our mothers girdles away from them:rotfl:

I'm not. I never tell my mother what she should or shouldn't wear.

My kids did tell me how bad and unfashionable I am. I got razzed for YEARS for wearing the slouchy 80s socks and finally bought some low-cut socks. Thinking about how pleased the kids would be that I had left the 80s (after years of hearing crap about it), I put on a pair and waited. Couldn't wait to impress and have my fashionable sock choice accepted! :) The first one came in and I showed him my cool new socks. He said...

"Do you think that makes you cool? Because you're not cool."

...and that was the end of my attempts to be fashionable. I'm not cool. I'm old. I will continue to wear my nylons and my mom pants. I don't need to be a fashionista. I did that 20 years ago. :) And I have told the kids as much and told them I don't want to hear their opinions on my clothes.

If it works for your family, that's great. I'm sure it is all done in fun and you all enjoy it - I can see where that would work. But I don't need my kids telling me what to wear or that I look bad...and I wouldn't do it to my mom. Different strokes for different folks.

You can always wear Spanx or some other footless pantyhose if you want the support. Tights are very in right now, that is what I am wearing this winter with my skirts.

Perhaps her mother is wearing open~toed shoes also.:scared: The daughter may have wanted to be sure there would be no open~toed/pantyhose combos going on there.

I always thought they were horrid and never wear them. I hope they are a thing of the past. I would never tell somebody not to wear them, especially an older person.

I can't even tell you the last time I wore panty hose. My nana thinks its sin for me to go to a wedding or a church without wearing them. I can't stand them. And the fact that I wear mostly open toe shoes. I think its also somewhat of a generational thing. My nana wears them always when she goes out. My mother will wear them if she is dressing up. I don't even own a pair.

I'm laughing out loud because my mom (in her late 70s) is a fashionista and she told me a couple of years ago to ditch the pantyhose!

Same here!! My mom EXPECTS me to tell her if she looks silly or unfashionable...and I do the same with my girls...I always have them with me when I try on clothes for their opinion.

When my mom and I see someone out who is horribly unfashionable we look at each other and say, "she must not have a daughter to tell her how dumb that looks!!" :lmao:

Your mom probably looks good.

Disclaimer I am fashion challenged: Crocks, Birkenstock & Uggs are the only shoes I can wear.

My mom does some really crazy things. Think Mrs Roper with Birkenstock.
We have had to tone the 20lbs of jewelry down.....she was having back problems:rotfl:
