Are Palo & Remy all you can eat?

... Second time in Palo our wonderful server Andre insisted my DH have the lobster ravioli in addition to his other items and kept trying to give us more food. :rotfl: .....

Was this on the Magic. We had Andre last month. He was very awesome. Great server, very personable and funny!

He is transferring to the Fantasy (or Dream) because that's the ship where his Girlfriend is. He prefers the classic ships - but it was easier for him to get a job over there than her getting a job on the Magic.

Yes, it was on the Magic in April and he was excited because he was fixing to have a couple of months off before the Med sailings. He didn't mention a transfer but he did talk about how excited he was with the Magic's itinerary for 2015. You could tell that he really loves his job and really took pride in it. We had him for dinner the night before and then again for brunch. He literally was forcing food on us. Lol He was terrific and I really hope that we have him again in the future.

He took great pride in telling us that "the" pastry chef was onboard the Magic and that we would have the pleasure of having him prepare our chocolate souffle and that it would be the best ever. He was absolutely right.....so delicious. ;)

I know most restaurants onboard are basically all you can eat, meaning you can order more than 1 appetizer or more than 1 entree. My husband & I usually each order an entree and then share one. Is this possible at Palo or Remy?

If you walk out of Palo/Remy hungry.... just reload at the buffet right afterwards. The typical cruiser gains 1lb for each cruise day. There's nothing to stop you from trying to better that average. There's also room service to assist.

Just ate at Palo last night. We were a table of 7. My husband asked about ordering extra dishes to share and the server seemed very put out by it, but in the end brought out several plates that we didn't order for everyone to try. This was our first experience with dinner there and I was less than impressed. DH, DS18 and I agreed that the food was actually better at Enchanted Garden. The worst part was it took forever, our reservation was for 6pm and we didn't get out of there until after 9:30pm. We probably will stick to brunch from now on.

I have never had anything but raves for Palo food and service. Last week Between the two of us we ordered three appetizers, three small portion pastas and one entree to share. And we always ask for more antipasti since everything on that tray is delicious. . The servers we have had have been nothing but terrific and always try to push more food than we need or want. We of course ordered the chocolate soufflé and I thought I had made if clear that we only wanted one to share. We got two...poor us!

Wow- that's an incredible amount of weight gain. 7-8 pounds a week?
Did you make the number up, or is there any science behind it?

(I've done 4 cruises, 2 I came back a few pounds lighter, which I quickly gained back when I got back to my no a million stairs a day lifestyle, and 2 I had exactly the same weight I left with. I do know a lot of people swell up due to the high salt in the food.)

We did learn fairly quickly that we couldn't ask servers advice on what to order, sadly- too often they would just bring both dishes we asked about. And I don't need two dinners.

My DS18 weighed himself before we left for our cruise last Friday and again this morning. He gained 6 lbs, on our 3-day cruise. He's really thin though, so it was not a bad thing, but I'm sure he'll probably loose it all in a week or two.

The 4 times we have eating there they never brought us extra.

The 2 times I asked for something extra was giving lip about it.

Sometimes the tenderloin is so small it wouldn't feed a child!

That's too bad:( We've eaten there 3 times and always been given extra or a half portion of something that we wanted to try in addition to our main entrée.

Portion size can seem different to different people. When I was a kid I stayed over at my Aunt & Uncles house. When she was making dinner that night she had out 4 huge steaks, 4 huge potatoes and corn on the cob. I asked if she was having company for dinner because of all the food. Nope, 1 steak was for me, 1 for my cousin, 1 for her and 1 for my uncle. At home 1 of those steaks would have fed a family of 6 (2 parents, my 3 older brothers & me). I said I couldn't possibly eat all that & she said that what I couldn't eat, my cousin would finish. WOW!!!

This is not my picture, but how I remember it. Look at the cherry tomato on top.

Tenderloin is not big!

The weight gain thing...it's mainly water and the extra food. That's why if you get back to your normal routine you can "lose" it in a week or so. Now if you're like me and the gain "hurts your feelings" and you keep on eating like you were still on the cruise, THAT is going to cause actual *fat* gain. That's the part most of us have to struggle with!

It takes a week or more to create new fat anyway, so the scale rise after a 4-7 day cruise isn't fat. It's just water and food that's being digested still...

Portions on the plate looked small to us, but if you're moving slow, savoring and enjoying it, your stomach can fill all the same! :)

That tenderloin looks enormous to me, 8 oz maybe. That's more than twice the size of meat that I serve per person in my house.

I guess we have different ideas of what is "child-sized" because that tenderloin looks like a typical 8 oz portion. That's the size that I get from the local butcher shop.

Just wanted to say that I felt the same way. Tried Palo for the first time in September and I wasn't impressed. BFF and I both agreed. We also tried to get a few "samples" and we were pretty much told no. Now, granted, we had gone to Victoria & Alberts a few days before but it just wasn't even close. I even told BFF that my dinner the night before at the MDR was better. We will try Remy next time and we'll see how that goes.

Honestly if you grew up in any type of "Foodie" area I would agree that Palo is pretty average. I always assume the rave reviews are coming from people that don't have that type of dining available in their home towns. For myself, growing up in Chicago I can safely say there are hundreds of better Steak houses and Italian Restaurants in that area than Palo. Palo is good, rich, delicious food but it is severely outclassed by onshore options.

There are better steakhouses and Italian restaurants where I live but I'm not going to be able to eat there for $25 plus tip. In the better restaurants, $25 would get me an appetizer and a soup or a salad.

Just tell them at the beginning that you can't decide between two different entrees and you would like both. They should bring them. The problem is trying to order something after your initial order because there is only so much time allocated for your dinner.

Oh absolutely, I was speaking on the food only.

Remember to add in the cost of the meal you are skipping.

You prepaid for that also.

Sorry to resurrect this thread. We did Remy dinner years ago on the Fantasy (2014) and we ordered multiple extra items outside of having gone through one of the Prix Fixe menus. I don't think we cycled through *both* Prix Fixes but I think did the French then ordered items off the American menu. They had no problems and thought it was funny actually... the chef came out and wanted to meet us, probably thinking "who are these pigs?!" - it was quite a memorable experience either way.

I realize this probably isn't proper etiquette for this type of dining but honestly I don't care that much since we don't do this often at all. And they seemed more than willing to let us try other items, since they sounded good and we weren't that full from the Prix Fixe (the portions are on the smaller side with fine dining even if it's multiple courses).

That said, anyone know if it's the same thing recently with Remy dining? Has anyone ordered additional entrees a la carte in addition to Prix Fixe? Or just in general multiple entrees? Or have they become more restrictive about this? I figure most people probably don't do this, so it's an outlier that they probably don't have issues with. If everyone were to do this, they would probably then limit it.
