Are overalls a thing of the past for babies and toddlers?

It seems like it to me, anyway.

Part of the fun of being a grandparent is shopping for baby/toddler clothes, and believe me, I'm loving every minute of it! I have noticed that it's hard to find overalls, especially larger than a 12 month size.

I think overalls are so cute on little ones.:) When my own three kids were babies and toddlers, they practically lived in Osh Kosh overalls and shortalls. I've always liked babies to look like babies, and not to be dressed in older kid-style clothes. The only overalls that my 17-month old grandson has are the ones that I've bought for him. My daughter prefers regular pants on him, but luckily she doesn't mind if I indulge in the occasional pair of overalls.:)

And she's probably more the norm. I've noticed when I'm out that most babies, and almost all toddlers, are not dressed in overalls. Now I'm not knocking regular pants, because I know there are a lot of adorable styles out there for little ones! In fact, I just bought several pairs of cute pants for my grandson.:)

Just wondering though, if anyone else has noticed a trend away from overalls?

You're right. Overalls in under 12 month sizes are somewhat easy to find (though I hated them for my kids, the shoulder buckles always seemed to interfer with the shoulder straps of their car seats make them uncomfortable.)

I recently went looking for overalls for both my kids for a farmer day, non-existent!

I've been finding them at the Oshkosh outlet store as wel as Kohl's. They have some really cute ones at Kohl's for girls! I also found some aty babies R Us.

My now 2 year old only had one pair. My nearly 9 year old had lots of them. They aren't readily available. I think parents started to realize how much of a pain it is to change a diaper in overalls.

There's nothing cuter than a toddler in denim overalls! Someone gave some to my DS11 when he was a baby and he looked so cute in them. I didn't find them terribly difficult for changing. Just unsnapped the legs.

We have found them in just about every size in the Farm Stores around here. (Farm King, Farm and Fleet) They usually don't have them in baby sizes, but those are easy to come by in other stores. They have toddler and bigger kid sizes all the way up to adult sizes. :thumbsup2

I agree with everything you said. I love them! And no, I don't see them much at all anymore, altho I'm not really looking. No grandkids yet (and not for a while, I hope!) I still have my kids' overalls tho...and some of them were handed down to them.

I draw the line at adult overalls!:rotfl:

Osh Kosh B'Gosh outlets carry them.

I did find some cute ones at an Osh Kosh outlet. Even there, though, they were way in the back of the store and there wasn't much of a selection.

I found a pair of Thomas the Tank Engine overalls on a clearance rack at Sears. They even "talk"! My grandson is totally in love with them!:rotfl:

I obviously don't know how plenty full they were in the past but I have a few for both of my DS's. Gymboree usually has one per line with their styles. I have also noticed them at the Children's Place.

I like them, my DH does not. They never fit on my DS though ... he has a very long torso and short little legs so they always unbuttoned in the crotch.

I LOVE the shortall outfits from Carters and Polo. Just one piece, short sleeve and shorts. LOVE THEM!! :-) I have tons from DS#1 and bought a few longer pant ones for the new DS!

Carters usually has plain denim overalls in larger sizes.

When DS was born I didn't really like how he looked and fit into overalls and I even told my MIL not to buy more after she bought some. After he turned two last spring I decided I wanted to keep him looking like a baby as long as I kid and bought him some. Well he HATED them and kept trying to pull them off. I got him to reluctantly wear them a few times and then he potty trained and that pretty much was the end of it. Now I wish I'd dressed him a little babyish for longer.

I have a few pairs from Old Navy and the Gap but I bought them for my now 9 yr old! They are just plain jeans ones and one is fleece lined in a red plaid so they were neutral enough for both boys and girls.. they have held up well thru all 4 kids :) but I do draw the line at potty training age for them.. call me lazy but they are just way too hard to get off when they "gotta go and gotta go NOW"

Eh, when it comes to babies and toddlers, I don't pay any attention to the trends. I love them!! They are TOO cute on little kids. I get all of ours at Gymboree!! If you haven't shopped there...oh boy, look out! That's is the only place I buy our boys' clothes now. I love it! They always have the cutest overalls. I especially love them for the hotter months, as they can just wear those with a tank underneath.

With my squeaky Tevas (you know...from that other thread) and my grandson's talking overalls, I bet we'd be so annoying that we could clear out any restaurant or store within five minutes flat.:rotfl2:

I know what you mean. Babies don't stay little for very long. I was never in a rush to dress them in older styles. I also remember always dressing our first child very nicely. Everything had to match and be perfectly clean. We would only buy his baby shoes from Stride Rite and I used to iron all his little shirts and overalls!

By the time our third child was born, I loosened up considerably! She was lucky if her socks matched each other!:rotfl:

With my grandson, I'm somewhere in between the two extremes.:)

My baby usually wears a cute onesie and matching knit pants. She's crawling everywhere and she pulls strange on the knees when she crawls. (she army/spider crawls)

They are cute on older babies though! So uncomfortable on little babies I think, I keep my tiny babies in soft knits.

Luckily when it is time for grandkids to wear them, i will have no problem finding them, all i need to do is go to the garage and find the tote labeled overalls:rotfl: I have saved every pair ! I have no problems with adults wearing overall....to the barn, in fact they are very handy, you can just drop them by the door as you come in from the barn, ready to be worn out again in the morning.

I think they are cute on toddlers but my kids never liked them. On infants they are horrible because they constantly ride up in their face. My kids didn't like them on their shoulders and they pull in the crotch when you sit down, climb etc. Also, going to the bathroom is a pain in them.

Both of my kids lived in overalls and my favorite maternity outfit was a pair of denim overalls! When I shopped for DS I only bought clothes that could be worn by both sexes including lots of denim overalls and a couple of pair of red and navy cordoroy ones as well, a jean jacket, etc. and a I saved it all for my next child. Unfortunately I sold everything a bit before DD, 8 years later, was born:rolleyes: My point is that you can dress up denim overalls with a cute pink or flowered shirt and voila you can outfit either sex. And, no worries, he got plenty of BOY clothes from family members too:)

I wish the parents today would either make sure their babies are in onesies or put them in overall style pants. I hate to see bellies out in the cold winter:sad2:
