Are overalls a thing of the past for babies and toddlers?

I got overalls for DD at the Osh Kosh outlet. They always seem to have them there and she just looks adorable in them. That said, I never see kids in them anymore.

I haven't really noticed anything about overalls, but this reminded me of shopping for my youngest granddaughter's 1st birthday. I had already picked out the toy I wanted to get her, then started over to the clothing section. My DD works there and it's HER DD I was shopping for, and DD saw me and asked if she could go over to the clothing department with me while I shopped. The party theme was Princess, and I saw a cute outfit (sweatpants, and hooded sweatshirt, both with ruffles) in the Disney Princess theme. I picked one up and was looking at it, and DD picked up the Spongebob Squarepants outfit right next to it as that's the one she liked. I knew I might as well get the Spongebob one, since DD liked that one better. But I liked the Princess one better, darn it. :( I just think of Spongebob being more "boyish", and the Princess one would have looked so cute on her....but I'm not the one dressing her every day. :(

DD never puts the baby in a dress. I thought she would for Christmas, but no she wore jeans and a top. Same for her birthday. No dress. Gosh, I remember when DD was little I dressed her in dresses every chance I got. And with tights with ruffles on the butt, little black patent leather shoes. I wanted her to look like a girl. :)

I wish the parents today would either make sure their babies are in onesies or put them in overall style pants. I hate to see bellies out in the cold winter:sad2:

That is exactly why I loved them. No little bellies getting cold! DGD will be crawling in a month or two (well, that is if we can talk Great-grandma into putting her on the floor!!) and I am hoping to find some overalls or coveralls.

My kids wore the corduroy overalls. Wonderful for crawlers because of the padding at the knee and they never wore out. Some of theirs even had an extra patch at the knee.

I hate them and don't find them cute at all. The few pairs my DS3 got as gifts were exchanged or never worn. I just don't like that look at all on my kid. I have always dressed him a bit older than he is, but I just think he looks so cute that way (he is also very tall for his age and people always assume he is older than he really is). My DS as a baby lived in the lined athletic pants from Childrens Place and tshirts (short or longsleeved) mainly. When he was a baby he wore onesies underneath to keep his belly warm. Now if he wears a thinner shirt I put a white undershirt on too...I like the layered look.

Luckily his grandmother, who buys him a lot of clothes, respects my wishes and usually sticks to the type of clothes I approve of for him.

I did not like dressing my baby like a little man. I don't think he owned a pair of pants until he was three or so other than the pull on knit type we used as PJs and play clothing.

I also don't care for the weight of the denim or corduroy used in most overalls and I do not like the buckles on them either. The fabric and buckles just seem so clunky to me for little bodies.

He wore mostly little cotton shortalls (the type that button on the shoulder)or Jon-jons (a shirt with shorts that button on at the waist. I never had any trouble changing diapers. I did have several pairs of longalls out of fine wale corduroy that we used with sweaters or shirts during the winter and he looked darling in them.

Our youngest is 16 months and it does seem like overalls are less common now.

Our absolute favorite piece of clothing from our first child (he's 14 yrs now) was his pair of 18 month size Baby Gap denim overalls. They fit great, the straps didn't fall down, they were comfortable, and after 5 kids, they are still in perfect shape.

About a month ago, I put them on our youngest, but he didn't like them. He kept pulling on the straps and trying to get them off. I realized that this was the first time he'd had overalls on because these are the only one's we still had.
