The wife and I are planning to do a lot of sharing of entrees at the restaurants. I was wondering if the portions are big enough to do this okay( and from the pictuers I've seen on the DIS the portions are not small), and if the restaurants will let you share? I can't see why they wouldn't let people share, I mean I am paying for the thing, but there are restaurants out there that do not.

You can certainly share entrees at WDW restaurants. I must say tho that I find the portion size "average", and those pics can sometimes look larger than what they actually represent. Can't recall that Mrs U and I ever just ordered one entree. I guess it all depends on your appetite.

It used to be a lot more consistent (that the portions were sufficient size to share) but that is no longer the case. Many restaurants are now serving more reasonable portions, no longer large enough to share.

I would say the issue is more one of how big the meals are and not whether or not they will let you share, i'm sure none would say no. DH and I shared on our last trip at the following restaurants:

San Angel Inn: We shared an appetizer, main course and dessert. They were very good and brought out two plates for us and it was enough for the both of us and quite tasty!

Wolfgang Puck Cafe: Again, we shared an appetizer, main course and dessert. They weren't overjoyed at us sharing but they did allow it!

I would say one thing we found helpful when sharing was to tell the server up front and let them know would make it up to them at the end. We were on the dining plan and tips were included so obviously they got less if only one TS credit was used so we'd leave an extra $5 or $10 on top of the 18% they'd get from what we ordered.

I also think CS places are easier to share at and some of the portions there are very big. Places like Cosmic Ray's, Sunshine Seasons, Cantina di San Angel, Tangierine Cafe, and most of the breakfast platters at the resorts were big enough to share as well!

Restaurants where we could not have shared (and would not as the food was too good!) as the portions weren't big enough were places like Le Cellier and Kona Cafe. Although the servings were big they wouldn't have been if we'd have had to share them.

Hope this helps!

We agree, we also don't find the portions large enough to share. Actually I don't think my DH would let me touch his plate. The only dish that comes to mind to share might be the fried chicken at the 50s prime time, but only the chicken as the sides are average to small portions.

DW and I share several meals. And there doesnt seem to be any backlash from the CMs about doing this. We sometimes will order an appetizer as well.

I have read recently that as part of their healthy eating initiative Disney is looking at smaller portion sizes. I think you will find that it is not going to be adequate food to share for 2.

We just got back from an end of August trip and shared on many occasions. We were a party of 4 that shared apps prior to our entrees several times during our trip. Sometimes we'd order 3 entrees for the 4 of us, sometimes two. Brown Derby split our filet entrees at lunch (we shared 2 apps between us) and it was a perfect amount of food. The reason we often do this is because we like to sample a little bit of everything (sometimes including dessert) and we'd simply not be able to fit it all if we ordered a full entree each. We're not DVC owners so we can't take unused portions back to the room for reheating, and I hate to waste food. We shared in Le Chefs for lunch with no problem. We shared at Beaches and Cream (and still couldn't finish our No Way Jose's)! We've even shared at many counter service restaurants so we could sample food from several locations (primarily in Epcot). Nobody has ever given us a problem about this. As for tipping, we usually tip based on what we order, but we tip generously anyway.

My Wife and I share many of our entrees. Most of the time we get some kind of starter, flatbread etc. so there is always a lot of food. Since my wife lost 100lb on Wieght Watchers we do not eat as much food at one time as we used to.

When it comes to portion size, I think it really depends on the restaurant. But lately I've noticed a considerable scaling back of portion sizes everywhere. The Bistro de Paris serves small portions. But on just about every trip, my family & I have shared & have never encountered a problem with a CM. In fact, most of the time they even brought us extra plates! Before the DDP, we always shared appetizers & deserts. We also would skip desert at the sit-down places & got it elsewhere; doing this saved a lot of money. At a lot of the counter service places, like the Electric Umbrella in FW, DH & I order the roast beef hoagie (which is pretty big) & split it. It's plenty for 2 people. Enjoy your trip!

That's happening elsewhere as well, not just at WDW. Not every restaurant, but as you said, "... a considerable scaling back ..."

We don't really think the portions are big enough for two adults to share but my dh and I both are foodies, we love restaurants and love trying new menus so I'd probably stab some one with my fork if they wanted me to split an entree. My teenage sons are all over 6' 2" and eat like linebackers for the NY Giants, no way is an entree big enough for them to split. :scared1:

I think that most entrees in WDW are big enough to share (especially those from CS restaurants), but the two restaurants I would not share in are Kona Cafe and Le Cellier. Kona's food is just too good to share, and sometimes their portions are a bit smaller than what is anticipated. Le Cellier has small portions in general, so I don't recommend sharing there either. :)

Have a great trip! :wizard:

Just got back Sunday and I would say NO..We probably wont be back for a couple years unless hubby changes his mind if they offer free dining next year. But anyway we are more buffet type people, not that we eat alot but we like a variety and not having to wait on our food.:laundy:

Lots of CS places have huge portions, Tangerine Cafe and Wolfgang Puck Express are two of our favorite places and we always share.
