So we signed up for the basic dining and will take advantage of as many of the character meals as possible. Actually, all 5 of our TS will be character meals as the kids absolutely love these.

Storybook breakfast
Crystal Palace Dinner
Hollywood and Vine lunch
Chef Mickey Breakfast
1900 Park Fare Cinderella Dinner

So main question do most buffets feature the same foods or will there be some variety based on these?

Storybook Breasfast at Norway isnt really a buffet- it is a family style service with a small buffet of pastry and fruits.

Chef Mickeys, H&V, and Crystal Palace are typical buffets- but each unique and different. The food in each is slightly different and obviously the characters are different at each. I love them all!

There is some variety. The Storybook breakfast starts with a "cold" buffet with fruits, pastries, and a few Norwegian specialties, and then the "hot" portion of the breakfast is served family-style at your table -- eggs, breakfast meats, and a fabulous cheesy potatoey hashbrowny dish.

I think since you're splitting your character meals into breakfast, lunch, and dinner, you'll see a variety of offerings. We barely scratched the surface at 1900 Park Fare, where I can recommend the carving station and the desserts, in particular!

Most of the regular buffets are the pretty much the same. All of them seem to have a few dishes that are unique to that restaurant though. A few years back we ate at Chef Mickey's and two days later we ate at 1900 PF. I remember Dh said something along the lines of, this would be pretty good if we hadn't ate the same meal two days ago.

The food for the restaurants you listed will be basically the same.
Two that are slightly different, but no characters, are Boma and Cape May

Fro the most part, if you closed your eyes you wouldn't know which buffet you were at. However, that's not the case for Boma's the AK Lodge. It's definitely unique.

It's not on your list, but my favorite buffet was Tusker House. I did think thier buffet was different (in a better way) from the other we had.
