Just read a review of the luau and the poster claimed that in Oct mosquitos were a real problem. Is this typical? and how about late Nov and early Dec.?
Do they sell insect repellant in the shop there or do you have to bring it with you?

Thanks.

It really depends on when FL has its first freeze. Which usually isnt till Nov-Dec if not later. Since I am a FL resident I dont leave home without Skintastic lotion in my car. I dont belive I have ever seen it in the gift shops but I could be wrong.

Have stayed at the Poly in Oct and Nov and Dec, never had a problem with mosquitoes but them sand fleas or mites or what ever they are can cause some nasty bites. Usually around the ankle and leg area. I'ld take my own stuff from home and slather it on my legs and ankles anyway plus where ever they seem to be eating me. Remedy for bites, plain old amonnia, main ingredient in all those gel itch products they sell for big bucks. Ammonnia is cheap, is the main ingredient in those itch pens sold years ago, open a bottle of itch gel and give it a whiff, you'll know the smell.

We go to the Poly in May and October. Some times we are bothered and others not. The times we are bothered by them it isn't just at the Poly but also around other bodies of water. I remember a couple years ago standing by Splash Mountain waiting for the Halloween parade and getting eaten alive. We weren't bothered anywhere else that year but right there. Mostly in October they seem to get us. While watching the fireworks at the Poly beach we also were getting bit. Now we carry a travel size repelllant and keep in the backpack while at the parks. We spritz some on before sitting at the beach at night too. I guess it is hit and miss so be prepared and you will be fine.

We've stayed at the Poly in February, August & November and never had problems with misquitos. This I loved because at home misquitos love me. I'm always the only one in family with bites. As my DH says I'm their target because I'm so sweet.

We have stayed at the Poly in both Dec and Feb. Never had a mosquito problem (hey, we are from Minnestoa where mosquitos are the state bird) but those sand fleas or mites are awful! Make sure you where water shoes on the beach.

In early November, I was eaten alive by the Poly quiet pool. It was late afternoon, and I was sitting by the side of the pool, watching the kids swim, and I felt itchy. I looked down and there were about five mosquitos sucking away on my legs and arm. Ugh!!!! The resulting bites were huge!!

Prior on the same trip, I was bitten repeatedly on the legs at MNNSHP. Mosquitos love me! :(

I done two trips in Oct/Nov, and they have been the worst with bugs, in my opinion. I have to remember to put bug spray on more often!!

To be perfectly honest... this is the main reason we have not returned to the Poly in a while (to stay). We visit, but I still encounter more mosquitoes than at ANY other resort on Disney property. It begins INSIDE the lobby area, near the lush, foliage filled waterfall/pond. I received at least 8-10 bites or more, just speaking with someone at the desk. My girlfriend was attacked by three, very persistent biters during the same brief interim. When I complained and mentioned this to the manager on duty, he apologized and acknowledged the problem, but offered no resolution. :confused3

When we attended the Luau last summer, in August, I received at least 10-15 bites on the lower legs while seated outside. :guilty: I attribute this to the location, and the dense jungle-like plant life surrounding this resort. There is truly no other way to explain it. I do not receive bites at any other resort, or even in the parks (maybe one on occasion). But, when I visit the Poly, I am always inundated with bites. And, these are BIG mosquitoes I'm talking about! No wimpy, little weak breed. LOL. :sad2: Since I am prone to possible life-threatening allergic reactions caused by the bites, I try to avoid such contact. I carry an epi-pen with me, but do not enjoy using it. Therefore, we have no choice but to avoid this resort until the management staff or corporate office personnel take more aggressive measures to alleviate this problem.

I didn't notice it but I always make a point to carry Skintastic also. They don't sell it in the giftshop either. Bring your own just to make sure. :earsboy:
