Especially for kids? Is it just to hold the card that gives you charging abilities? If so, my kids don't need to carry that around right? Does the card act as your room key as well? Please advise.

Yes, room key, embark and disembark charging. I/D, age, dinner rotation and table.

Muster location.

The lanyard itself is useful, but if you prefer something else it's up to you, but it helps you nit loose them.

I like to use a lanyard, my husband does not. If your kids are older and will be out and about on their own they will need their key to get back into room and charge if you allow it. If they are younger I would just keep their card in the room until port days when you need it to exit the ship.

Most of us don't wear them but many people do. Just personal preference.

My oldest used hers always (15). My 10 year old was not allowed to carry her own key but next year she'll be 11 and probably will. I never used mine because I always had my backpack with camera. If I could bear to leave the camera in the room I'd use a lanyard too.

Usually just my pocket. :) When leaving the ship, it goes in a small wallet or side zipped pocket of my bag.

Yes, it acts as your on-board 'credit card' as well as your room key. I got my kids a lanyard but they ended up not using it because they lost their key within 5 min of being on the dang boat. We found the card and promptly took away the keys and lanyards. It was a great idea in theory but for my girls (age 5 and 7 at the time) it was a huge fail. For the record, I think when you check-in online, you can choose to give them charging abilities. I could be wrong about that one, but I think the kids keys only worked as keys.

i always use a lanyard...i find it to be wonderfully convenient on the ship..
i don't use it off the ship...i put the lanyard into my purse, which i put into my backpack for shore excursions....
but on the ship, that lanyard is always around my neck... love it!
and everyone else in my family also uses a lanyard...

As others have said EVERYONE will need their key card to get off and on the ship. Even at Castaway Cay. If you are over 18 you will need a photo ID ( drivers license is ok) and your key card to get off and on. FYI: when you get to the scanner to get off the ship at a port scan the adult key 1st because kids can't get off without the adult listed in their cabin.

I like to use a lanyard because women's shorts pockets are not very deep so the key card falls out of my pocket and I don't carry a purse on board.

Kids 14 years and older who are in the Vibe club will need their key card to get in the club.

I can't stand the feel of they lanyard around my neck.

I use a pocket. If I don't have a pocket, DH does.

When DS was younger, I would keep up with all the lanyards. It was easier.

This was our first cruise with lanyards and none of us used them. What I loved having was my card holder phone case.

I kept my KTTW and my ID in there. There was also room for dd's when we went to muster or on/off the ship. I find or super useful at home too for quick trips to the store. Since I use the navigator app and my phone's camera, it was something I was carrying around anyway.

I used mine for my KTTW card and my Café Fanatic card.

Hubby didn't use one because he didn't get one free, we'll see what he does during this upcoming cruise. He threw his in his pocket.

The nice thing about the lanyard is that the card doesn't need to be taken out for some of the touch technology.

We use our pockets, or I'll use my purse or backpack. I have to wear a lanyard every day for work, I don't want it around my neck on vacation.

It depends on what I'm doing. We always have them from the CC, but I only use it if I know I won't be bringing anything else to put my Key in. Last cruise I used one of those silicone pockets on the back of my phone. Worked like a charm, because I almost always carry my phone for the camera, and I didn't have to fuss with the lanyard. (If you do get one, I'd recommend putting a case on your phone first if you don't have one already.)
