Are kids ok at signature dining?

I would be interested in seeing the kids menu from Shula's. We never hesitate to take our 5 year old where ever we dine and have never had an issue. He knows what we expect and we rarely have any issues. We however have not done Shula's with him....just have not gotten around to it. Thinking about next trip. We rarely order him anything off the kids menu as he would rather eat off the adult's so we just share. Also nice to hear they do not charge the sharing charge. Is that for everyone now, or just kids?

My award for worst behaved family group was at Bluezoo (yes another restaurant where it is not "encouraged" for guests to take their young children). This was a large family group and a bunch of kids under 10 were permitted to race around the restaurant pushing a baby in a stroller, while the parents sat at the table and said "isn't that cute" and the servers dodged the kids. So parents don't necessarily care if their children can handle a fine dining restaurant or not.

Nobody from the restaurant said a word to them. Which is kind of a contrast to, believe it or not, 'Ohana, where some parents were actually asked by restaurant staff to get their child to refrain from constantly blowing a whistle.

I'm not sure about the sharing charge. I don't see it on their published menu anymore and I don't see it referenced on their website, so that leads me to believe they have done away with it.

I know they had it in the past and we were never charged. Not sure if that was because we had kids, or maybe because we ordered sides and appetizers. Or maybe they never really enforced it?

This is a recent sample of the children's menu as posted by Uncleromulus:

Chicken Noodle Soup-$6.95
8% Chicken Breast-$11.95
Cheesburger-8.95
Mashed Potatoes-$4.95
Mac&Cheese-$4.95

A few years back they also expanded their sides and appetizer offerings, and our kids have enjoyed some of those, such as:

Shrimp Cocktail $14.95
BBQ Shrimp stuffed with Basil $14.95
Jumbo Lump Crab Cake $16.95
Crab Macaroni and Cheese (A BIG hit) $12.95

My son (13) orders off the entree menu now, but my daughter (6) still goes with the sides/appetizers. Here's a link to the current full menu http://swandolphinmeetings.com/menus/restaurant_menus/shulas/

The desserts are great also.

Unfortunately, there are always those that don't get it. I'm fine with giving them the boot when they don't comply.

Thanks. The shrimp cocktail will make him happy and he can munch on my steak and side!

We've been going to WDW at least 2x per year since DD was 2. We usually eat at 4-6 signature restaurants per trip. Kids are fine there. They are set up to entertain them and the staff seems happy to have the kids there. The meals did not take longer than at any other Disney restaurant. All the ones I've been too have had kids menu options too.

I have to agree there...plus, we had TERRIBLE service ...it will be a looooooooong time before I go back given the way we were treated.

I also agree with this. Yachtmans is HORRIBLE. Worst steak (I had filet, DH had porter house) I've had at Disney and some of the worst service I've had at any nicer restaurant EVER. I gave the place 2 tries and I doubt I will ever go back. There are too many other great options. Hope you have a better experience than I did.

Our DD was just shy of 4 when we visited WDW last fall. We ate at Yachtsman and our DD did just fine. We started off on the wrong foot but was quickly corrected with a trip to the ladies room and a stern talk. ;) I think as long as you are courteous enough to be prepared to leave if necessary (and it seems you are) there is no problem.

FWIW though, I would not expect anyone to sit through a meal with my child being disruptive.. whether it was Tony's or California Grill.

Almost forgot! We didn't think Yachtsman was horrible. It was above average.. the steaks were really good, we just found the sauces to be a bit much (very rich, would be better on the side), the onion bread was to die for.. can't really remember the apps. I certainly wouldn't hightail it back there again, but would turn my nose up at it either. ;)
