Are Glow With the Show/Made With Magic worth it?

trying to decide if $25 could be used better elsewhere, or if it is a bargain...

It's really a matter of personal preference. I think the biggest thing to remember is that most of the people wearing the Made With Magic items won't see any of the color changes because it's on their head (ear hat or earband). I think Made With Magic looks really neat when a lot of guests are wearing them at the shows (like the videos you see of an entire audience), but in truth, you'll be lucky if a handful of other guests are wearing anything at any given show. Mostly, I find Made With Magic ear hats/earbands annoying when they are in the audience ahead of me (it's basically a flashing light).

There are so few people wearing the hats, I often hold them in from of me to see the effects.

I hope there will be a special event for the hats (and wands) for the new parade.

I am hoping for a wand too I don't really want the ears. A wand would be cool like sorcerers mickey and tinker bell wands

My mom bought my niece one and I thought it was silly. It works without the shows, just lights up. But it's a lot heavier than a regular hat, so she didn't wear it much. Pretty much a waste, and my neice won't be coming back to Disneyland. If you go regularly and you like to attend the shows, then it's a cool novelty. Again, the hats are kind of heavy.

I was glad we had them in the moment, but consider them a waste now. Dd and I both got them and hardly anyone else had them so we really didn't get any benefit from wearing them. They are heavy and awkward on the head, so we carried them mostly. I am debating taking them for our next trip to give to my niece and nephew so they won't be tempted to buy them. If you are on any budget, I would spend the money on something else instead!

The videos are what got me to buy them! AND I bought 2 so DS and DD wouldn't fight over them, but neither ended up wearing them. They're heavy and the novelty wore off fast. I got them at WDW and they were a pain to pack for the flight too.

Here's another person who finds them extremely annoying when people are wearing them in front of me during the show. They are very bright, and really distract from me seeing the show. But of course, it's not my decision if others wear them. When Disney sells it, they will buy. But I'm kinda glad they are heavy and distract people from buying them. Haha!

In large crowds, they are amazing. Unfortunately you never see that anymore so I personally would not spend money on them... They have in the past had to specific areas during Fantasmic and fireworks for those with the hats, and if they brought that back for Fantasmic I would be all over it! I am interested to see how they interact, especially the wands, with paint the night.

So true.

And why are they (Disney) doing things to keep our eyes not on the show? Do they not have pride in their work?

It's like my conspiracy theory with Starbucks "new" La Boulange stuff. They are heating everything up in order to serve us *stale* food. When La Boulange was launched in my area they weren't heating things up. The food was good. Then they started heating. I don't do that. I get things unheated. And this last year, the food items are dry and stale.

Why is Disney putting other things up to take our eyes off their work? Is their work that stale?

If you went through the 60th catalog, you'd see they are releasing an updated version of the ears. The biggest complaint I've heard is of the design on them - they're ugly. The new ones are the royal blue with the 60th logo on the front, and light-up ears. I think they will sell a TON, especially with the added shows they can be used with.

I've wanted them since 2012, and finally bought them last month. As previous posters have said, they are kind of cool if you go back often. I'm kind of disappointed I bought mine in the current design though - the new ones look MUCH better!

We have glow ears, didn't wear them, but carried them around and loved the changes depending on where you are in the park (in addition to the shows.). We want the headband and wand tho... Hoping the headband stays on better than the ears.

I looked thought the catalog and did not find the new ears.

Personally I think it's rather pointless to have something with synchronized light patterns that is made to be placed on your HEAD, where you, the person who shelled out the 30 bucks, can't even see it. So then you have people carrying GWTS ears in front of them just so they can watch what it does. If they wanted to utilize this technology, they should have done it with something other than hats, which I think they might be doing for the 60th. However, I agree with bumbershoot. I'm there to watch the actual SHOW, so why the heck would I want to focus on some flashing mouse ears during Fantasmic?

Also they used a bit of deceptive marketing when these first came out, showing the videos of a ton of people with glow ears watching WoC, the whole audience alight with synchronized wonder. Yeah, well that only works when you give every member of the audience a pair for FREE just so you can record it for marketing purposes. The reality is that maybe a small handful of people will actually be wearing the ears at a show, that is, if they're even wearing them and not holding them out in front of themselves so they can see what they paid for.

Also, don't get me started on people who wear these things on rides like Pirates, Mansion, and Small World and don't turn them off. :headache: Originally it was said that there was supposed to be a trigger in rides that sensed the ears and automatically turned them off, but that doesn't seem to be the case. In that respect I'd say it's a good thing that not very many people buy them.

If I could get a mutual agreement with all the other guests to buy and wear those on the same night as me, I would total be in!

But alas. I have no interest in being one of only a couple in the audience wearing them.

Sorry. I just checked it, too, and it wasn't on there. I also re-read my last post and it may have come off as kind of matter-of-factly, and it wasn't meant to.

I believe those ears were actually in an article about the CM training they've been doing recently. I've been searching all morning for the picture - it's driving me crazy I can't find it. It does exist!

If it is for your kids and you don't want to spend the money. We buy glow sticks at the dollar store and bring them with and make bracelets and necklaces throughout our trip. They use them on dark rides if they are scared and during fireworks, WOC etc,.

I agree with everyone else that if you go to WOC now you probably won't see a lot of people using the glow with the show. There are some but not enough to make the visual impact of what was shown in marketing videos early on.

I'm not sure I saw a single pair when we saw WoC in December.
