I haven't seen one yet at PO, although I suppose at some point there would be one. There was an alligator at CSR, hanging out underneath the bridge, last time I was there.
Did not see one at POR last March when I was there, but that doesn't mean they are not there. Did see a small one at CSR in September though.
On the boat to DTD we were told by the boat driver to keep hands inside the boat, when I asked him if there were alligators in the water, he replied by saying he had not seen one lately, but they are known to be in the waters around WDW.
Not at POR, but when we were checking in at BWV in July the person in front of us was requesting a room change, as they had seen a gator not far from their room. I was kind of nervous walking to MGM along the waterway, but we only saw a bunny!
I've not seen one there - but I've seen one at the Poly, and one at the Beach Club. They can be anywhere, but I've not seen many on property, though I'm there often.
I saw the BCV alligator last August too-he came right over to us-literally-while we were on the overlook part at the BCV by the quiet pool. Some CMs came out and said that the big one was taken out and that this onw was a "baby" at about 5-6 feet!lol
I know it is Florida and they are around, but I am scared too death of those things and I really hope that I don't see any. We went on vacation to Myrtle Beach a few summers ago and we saw one wondering around a popular shopping and dinning spot and we were also told that it was just a baby about 6 feet long. I freaked out and left the property that instant considering dh watches way too much Croc. Hunter and my ds was fascinated by it!
3 trips totalling about 22 days - 1 alligator spoted in Jan 06 in the pond across the street from AsMu - saw many in other areas of FL but so far that was the only Disney gator spotted by us.
We have seen gators quite a few times in the Rivers of America at the Magic Kingdom, by DH has seen 2 at POR (one in the grass and one in the "river". And we have seen them on the side of the road, on a golf course, In one of the feed canals going into Bay Lake. DH grew up in a wildlife sanctuary so has a pretty good eye for animals. We have only made 2 trips without seeing any gators. On those trips however, he always finds snakes.
They are seen frequently but they are such "Good eatin'" that you'll have to run a whole lot faster than I can if you're looking for dinner or something.
Gator, black eyed peas, hush puppies....mmmmm! O caipira tem fome!
Really, the gators that get in those ponds are the smaller kind, not the monsters you see in movies. I still wouldn't ever let any children play near standing water in SoFlo, however an adult has little to fear.
Dogs, cats and other small animals? Keep them away as well. Those are the most frequent victims of our "urban gators" in Florida.
The most recent attack I remember was the fellah who dosed himself on Crystal Meth, took off his clothes and walked out into the 'glades.
Police found him chest deep in water. He calmly said (through exhaustion) "Help me, a gator has my leg". They got him out alive, although I don't recall what happened next. Suffice to say I don't have to tell you "meth and gators" simply don't mix.
Just run in zig zags if you see one! there vision is based straight ahead lol. i learned that after moving to FL, and being a city girl i was like "what have i gotten myself into??" I fear for them as well so i hope i dont see one at POR
My kids are obsessed with spotting a gator at WDW. Every time we're near water, their eyes are on it as if they were searching for gold. My dd is especially good at spotting things. Anyway, much to their disappointment, they've never spotted a gator. I'm actually hoping that we do see one someday (from a safe distance) so they can have the thrill of finding it.
as a 47 yr old man I am always looking for a gator that would be so cool, being from northern New England I have seen bear, moose, dear etc. We live near the coast and have seen, whales, sharks etc but I have NEVER seen a gator in the wild.
It would be a thrill for me, now the stupid part of me woule want to get close enough to it so I could get my picture taken but my wife (being the smarter of the two) would refuse to take it anyway
