We will be at The World for 8 days in April/May, and are contemplating renting a fridge while we are there. I know that coolers worked well on our last trip, but for lunch supplies(lunchmeat, cheese) I thought maybe it would be better to have the fridge. Also, I heard that you can freeze water bottles in them. Is that accurate?

So, what do you think? Are they worth the $10 a day?

Worth it or not...
They are in all MOD and DELUXE rooms for free now.
I think the Values are the only ones to still charg.... Maybe that will cahnge as well???

As previous poster said they are free at all except values.

You can rent them for $10.80 per night (includes tax)

If you stay at a WDW resort - moderate or deluxe, they do come with refrigerators for free now. Nice size - 2 shelves about 3 feet tall and 1.5 feet wide. :thumbsup2

If you stay at a value or a resort (S/D or offsite) with no refrigerator - then do a ride from MCO with a food shop and buy a foam cooler. Fill with ice each night (and day) to keep items cool. :) The foam cooler will last about a week before it starts to get worn and have holes.

If you do not mind parting with a cooler from home (free one from work or a bank maybe?) - then ship it down to your resort via UPS. Use it at the resort and ditch at WDW (do not bring back home). We got a free cooler from my place of work. We plan on shipping it to the Dolphin and ditching it after we use it.
A foam cooler will not work for us - we are staying for 2 weeks at WDW Dolphin. :goodvibes

Thanks for the info!

We actually will be driving down from Maryland, so we will be taking coolers anyway. We are staying at the POP so unforunately no free fridge :( bummer

I really am just worried about stuff getting soggy in the coolers. We will be getting some groceries while there for breakfasts/lunches so there will be quite a few things.

Maybe with any luck by April the values will get the free fridge too :thumbsup2

Pack zip-lock freezer bags. We place food items in their own plastic bags. We even pack the ice from the ice machines in the plastic bags. Abit more work - but it is easier to change the ice/water bags with solid ice bags and keeps the food unsoggy.

We used the fridges for milk for our young children. If not for that, we wouldn't have needed.

before there were free fridges, we used to get one all the time. we thought it was well worth it.

we would buy cold cuts and bread for sandwiches and other snacks or breakfast items. sometimes if we ate out somewhere and had leftovers, we would store it in the fridge and reheat it for lunch in the microwave at the food court. (at least the food court at riverside has a microwave). My brother's step-daughter is a picky eater - chicken nuggets, etc. so we would buy a pack at the grocery store, and heat those up for her for lunch time.

we would go back to the resort for a break around lunch time and just make sandwiches in there to save on money.

good luck and enjoy your stay!

For our 2000 trip, we drove from Cleveland OH and had a large cooler. We packed sandwich stuff and drinks. We used zip lock freezer bags and it worked great. We also have a backpack with a small cooler bottom that we packed our sandwiches and drinks into each day. We simply emptied and filled the big cooler with ice each night and had a few of those freezer packs that we put into the backpack cooler each morning. Now, this trip was just DH and I  but this worked really well for us.
For our recent trip in May, we flew and had DS2 with us. We stayed at the Poly and got a refrigerator which was great for the milk we bought for the week (We had brought those little cereal boxes for breakfasts and DS was drinking it with meals). Also, we had water bottles that we could get cold each night for the next day. The refrigerator was not such that we could freeze the water bottles, no real "freezer" area. We were also on the DDP and I brought some leftovers back to the room, put them into the refrigerator, and ate them later. We were really glad to have it in our room.

I think it's worth it! Gives you a chance to store milk (for cereal breakfasts) as well as pop, cheese, yogurts, etc. for quick snacks. Helps save money on meals!

We stayed at the ASMo in May and rented the fridge there....I think it was totally NOT worth it. It was so small we couldn't fit hardly anything in it! For example, we could fit 2 bottles of water on the "shelf", laying down, and three on the door standing up. Definitely not big enough for even a half gallon of milk, never mind a full gallon. The only other WDW resort I stayed at was CBR and we didn't rent one there so I don't know how big they are there or at other mod's or deluxe resorts

We have done it both ways - with a cooler, and with a fridge - I always feel better with a fridge, especially to make sure the milk & mayo stays cold enough. Cost of a fridge - $10 a day - knowing that your milk isn't spoiled - priceless!

So worth it! Our last trip we rented a car so we were able to get to a grocery store where we bought milk, juice, yogurt etc for the kids. We also bought plastic bowls and spoon so the kids could have cereal in the morning. It's definately worth it!
