Are flu shots really early this year?

DH and I got ours yesterday through his work ( a college) and when I called our Peds office this morning, they told me that I need to bring in my kids today as they only have 70 shots left. Now I have to collect them from 2 different schools at dismissal time and hope they have some left. Last year we got the shots in Oct./Nov. I haven't heard of anyone here being really sick yet, but I guess they are planning ahead.

Not really. I always get mine about this time each year. I don't know where you live, but there are a lot of people sick with the flu here now. They are not testing the type because there are so many. They are saying that if you have the flu now, it is H1N1 because the other strain has yet to emerge. One of the schools here had 40 percent of the kids out sick last week. You gotta love flu season!

I think it is early and I am worried about getting the shot so early. Flu (regular Flu) season around here is Jan-May. I'm worried that, by getting the shot in Sept. our immunity will be wearing off before flu season is over. For that reason, in the past, I held off on getting our shots until later Oct or even early Nov.

The only reason I could see for gettin gthe shot now is that, I believe, you have to wait a couple weeks after getting the flu shot before you can get the H1N1 vaccine....and that strain is going around now.

We got ours the first week of September at the CVS clinic and the nurse practitioner said that they weren't expecting to have them so soon. Some governmental agency (can't remember which one) asked them to start providing shots earlier so that people would already have had the seasonal flu vaccine before getting the H1N1 vaccine.

I'm in PA and I guess we haven't been hit with the flu yet.
I didn't want to get these shots so early, but it looks like we are forced to or they will run out.

My daughter had the flu in late Jan. even though she had the shot in early Nov. The ped. said it was b/c the shot lasts only a few months.
