So I'm looking into a trip for August and saw that flights from Boston are >$400 each, I know it's been a while since I've flown but is this the going rate? There are 5 of us going and $2000 for airfare is making me seriously consider a different time of year or the unthinkable....driving

Does sound high. Southwest will be releasing dates past 8/8 on March 3. That may push prices down. Would you consider an alternate airport such as Manchester or Providence?

Those are pretty high. You should be able to find flights for <$250 depending on your actual dates.

I like to use www.kayak.com to monitor prices. You can set up a price alert that will send you an email daily or weekly with the current price for the dates you are flying.

Can you fly out of Manch? We just paid $228 non stop for July with Southwest. Keep an eye on their low fare calendar. We are a family of 5 too...it is very expensive to fly.

I just booked for 8/22 coming from Portland Oregon and it was near $500 a person.

It already went up about $50 a person from the time we started looking in January.

I though about waiting for Southwest to come out but every flight I looked at went up so I said to heck with it and book it.

Didn't think the price was that bad as 2 years ago I did Portland to Los Angeles for about $250.

I booked for July the day JetBlue released and I am paying $280pp. Same flights now are $445. The last few times I have flown during peak times I have paid up to $325. But I am usually not that flexible as to when I can travel. At this point I would wait for SW and try Providence. If you are not that close to make the same day drive, we have done the Park and Fly thing with the Comfort Inn near the airport where you stay the night before your flight and can leave your car there for 2 weeks. I think we only paid around $100 a night which was cheaper than parking in the garage, but that was a couple years back.

I've been watching Southwest flights out of Providence and it seems like it's running $109 each way for most flights. We're looking for later in August, too, which aren't released yet. But it seems like for everything that is released at this point, you can pretty much get that $218 round trip rate.

Could you consider Providence instead of Boston?

I'd book that while you can.. Prices are looking like they're really going to skyrocket late spring/summer..

We're going in April (Easter Break) and for three of us from California it cost us $2000. It was lower when I was first looking 11 months out. I thought since I was looking so early it would go down, it never did. Another problem I encountered was times and connections. They all changed. Many flights had us arriving the following day! UGH! Then I started viewing the seats that were left and they were disappearing. Gas prices have gone up nearly 50 cents out here (Central California) over the last 2 or 3 weeks. That may have something to do with it.

Yes!
We're going August 8th and the prices are around $300-$450 depending on the airline. I can fly our of Newark, JFK, LaGuardia or Westchester, so I am looking at each and still way higher than I've ever paid.

We can't drive as we're checking into a Universal hotel Sat. the 9th, have 2 day park tickets and Sat and Sun are our only 2 Universal days before we head over to WDW. I can't get there late on Saturday. My husband has to work at least a half day Friday, we want to fly down Fri afternoon or evening.
I'm biting the bullet and willing to pay the $1200 for the 4 of us, but now that I've decided that, the prices are more like $1500 for the 4 of us and that's the lowest I can find, sometimes it's $400+ for flights. We usually pay around $200-$215. Ugh.

The flights we booked from phoenix went up $100 each this week. I thought we jumped the gun too early and overpaid a few weeks ago. :rolleyes2

Were booked nonstop jetblue out of Boston for $1003.00 & thats for 4 of us with flight insurance in August. It helps when you can avoid flying during the weekend and take a flight thats not too early or really late. We arrive at MCO at noon, and when we fly out our flight arrives BOS at 9pm. I would def keep checking and get them sooner than later, the closer you get the more expensive! Good luck! :)

I remember when it was easy to get roundtrips to Florida from airports throughout the Eastern and Central time zones of around $200 roundtrip.

There are now fewer airlines, fewer flights, and far fewer "cheap seats." That's good for the airlines, but not so good for those of us who benefitted from the below-cost pricing.

Apply for a SWA credit card and get 50,000 point if you charge $2000 in first 90 days. That would be enough to get a couple r/t for $10 each.
