Are double bookings okay

My friend has currently double booked us (for a room reservation only), once through a travel agent where we are awaiting some paperwork to get a better rate, and now secondly through the web and the ap discount code.

As long as we cancel one before any penalties, I don't think there should be a problem. However she is worried the reservation system is "smart" enough to notice the double booking and cancel one on our behalf.

Can someone verify that it's fine to be double booked for now? Thanks!

Not sure if it is legal...but you are holding up a room that another person may want, and may not be able to get because you are holding both.

I am pretty sure you can have multiple bookings without penalty. TA usually put a courtesy hold on rooms.

I had a couple reservations this morning, while I was figuring out the best rate. I did cancel after maybe a half hour.

You are "taking" a room from someone that is trying to book it, but they can always call back. I don't think you should keep multiple bookings for long though.

Legal? Surely you jest. I can book 10 different rooms for the same night as long as I pay for them.

My question is about the reservation system.
