Are Disney weddings forbidden for Catholics to attend??

My FMIL and FFIL are throwing a party for 200 people (130 of their guests) a week before we go to Disney. There is no ceremony (and we do NOT want a ceremony there), but she has requested that I wear a wedding dress (that they are paying for) and there will be a jazz band and a wedding cake. It's going to be at Shadowbrook. I'm sure you Central Jersey brides know it.

Just had to chime and say I love that location. If it wasn't so far from me I would have selected it. With the headache of people aside (as I have learned there is no changing others), you have 2 amazing locations and I am sure will have an amazing life ahead.

"I now had 2 children and was a divorcee, but it was ok in the church's eyes - they did not recognize my first marriage because it did not happen in the church."

I hear you. Once I divorced the father of my daughter, I was "okay" in the church again, even though we were married (Methodist church) for almost 7 years and I had an infant....what ??? Then for my marriage to my DH to be "okay" he has to get an annulment (though he and his first wife are neither Catholic, nor married in the Catholic church)? I can be married and divorced outside of The Church and be allowed to resume sacraments, but can't marry him without HIM having an annulment ?:confused3

Thank you ALL so much for your support and for sharing your experiences. You are all so wonderful. :grouphug: The more I read your stories, the more arbitrary the rules all seem. I don't think I will ever really understand, but that's ok. :confused3

Like so many of you have said, I am sure it will all be fine in the end and we will have a beautiful wedding!!

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY !!!

I can't believe that junk that the church is telling people. I agree with you about the hypocrisy of it all. I am catholic, and have been somewhat active, I try to go to church as often as possible kind of thing. My husband is not. We were married at Disney in Jan 2002 and had our marriage blessed by the church in April of 2003. We had MANY catholics attend our wedding, my side is Italian/Polish descent to give you some background. Heaven forbid if they had known they would be "sinning" before we got married!

None of my family condoned us getting married at the world, in fact my mom adamently tried to talk me out of it. People can say some hurtful things too. What I have learned though is that you need to do what YOU want to do.

You know I had my son without being married, but still wanted to baptize him in the catholic church. We I spoke to the priest at my church he flat out refused, i later spoke to a visiting priest at the same parish and he was more than happy to baptize my son and he even did it in a private ceremony.

I think it really just depends on who you ask in the church.
