Are Disney prices too high?

No garrenttee but it has reduced the people who were doing it... and that makes it better for everyone except those who seem to think they are in titled to make multi reservations.

AKK

But do we know for certain it's reduced it? I personally don't have access to that data, I just know that it doesn't stop me at all from making multiple reservations if I want to.

I can't understand the first part of your statement.
And your second point is based on mythology. Misinformation at its best.

No it quite clear.

Frankly if your that concerned about being billed for Olivia. Which is empty by your example, just don't make the reservation.

The place wi be employed by your example.

Problem solved.

WDW has never been cheap. My first trip was in 1985 with only Magic Kingdom & Epcot. Got home & said expensive but good value. Now i hear from folks at work that went over the last 2 yrs, expensive, crowded, construction but most dont say well worth it. Most are now in the crowd of done it once & that is it.
Disney has been counting on large groups from S. America. Maybe not for long. The business news show alot of problems in Brazil & Venezuela. I think Venezuela has experienced food shortages. The Canadian, Australian and New Zealand dollar have all dropped against the US Dollar. What will Disney do if many from these places say I cannt afford it & stop coming? They might end up with alot of empty rooms and parks.

Disney back after it was introduced reported it was opening up tables....and guests were reporting they were finding it easier toake reservations as well.

There are some great visionary minds involved with the studios aspect of the company. I'm not sure there are any in the parks division.

All the visionaries were assigned to Carsland. It is by far the best area in any of the parks that I have been to.

If you use something like Open Table, you can cancel.

OpenTable also blacklists reservation abusers. I'm not sure what the magic number is but they will ban people for booking ressies and then not showing up. So I guess Disney could implement something like that instead of the cash deposit.

Yes, I agree with everything you said. I was initially referring to the idea, that you can log back in to Open Table and cancel without penalty within a more reasonable period than 24 hours.

My.point is when compared to other entertainment venues Disney is a full day of top of the line entertainments which is alot more cost effective then sports or concerts or other parks.

Not sure I agree with this either. This will be our 13th trip in December so we average just under a trip a year since we've had kids. On average we spend ~ $5,500 for the week and that is DRIVING down to Orlando from St Louis. Flying would add about $2,000 more to that. Even with driving that is an average of about $800 per day. The last time we went to a Cardinals game is set us back about $250. My son and I went to a World Series game and it still only set us back $500. Rams or Blues games are a bit more but considering pre and post game fun I can go to a Rams game for about $400 or a Blues game for about $250. The common thread is that they are all a far cry from $800 every day for a week.

Not complaining, not saying we don't find value in our Disney vacations and certainly not saying we wont continue to go - just saying that as far a value for your entertainment dollar Disney doesnt rank anywhere near the top.

Well for me and mine, WDW is one of our more expensive vacations, but the cost is worth it. I see from time to time that several people stay two weeks to a month, now that is something I do not understand. How is it possible to stay that long given the time and money required? Also how can one stand the food and crowds for that amount of time? And more importantly, how can people take Orlando for that long? I can see a month long stay in Sanibel or key west, but Orlando would wear me out. I know people are different though. I suppose the people that stay for that long cancel out those that no longer go? I would say that for every person not willing to pay is a person willing to. I am willing as long as it's fun for us. I won't go anymore if we tire of it. Or maybe if you pay according to the day you go. That may be hard for me to justify. That's like first class vs. steerage!

Well you could reverse the whole thing and attach the travel costs to the ball game costs. The figures I have was based on the leagues information. and that is only for a 3 hour game , maybe 5 hours with other fun as you as. The last time my son and wife went to some country western star concert is was $250 each for so so seats. add again food and parking, which in NYC was $35.00.

Disney is a 9 to 13 hour day,. So I would politely disagree, with the whole day of top entertainment , I feel it is well worth the money.

How long do you stay?

Where are you from?

Where do you typically stay?

How often do you visit?

What ticket do you buy?

Here's a full day of Formula One racing and an Elton John concert for $99, so I guess that's close to the cost of an Epcot ticket.

Not that I'd be interested in Formula One, I'm more of a Nascar fan myself. That might not be a bad price just for Elton John.

We take a weeks vacation like we do anywhere else. We fly from Ohio.We come every few years. We stay both on site or offsite. We have bought regular tickets and hoppers.

Yet that is a oddity and unusual, not to mention the concert at a track event is like 1 hour. All that is also not a full day. Add a day at a Disney park is 9 to 13 hours, includes many attractions and 2 or 3 shows and a full fireworks show at the end. Not to mention all the many other things at WDW, including but not limited to many great restaurants, Disney Springs, Disney transportation, the water light show, moives, etc..etc.etc..... Seem your hour for hour your paying a lot more then Disney.

You are not even trying to understand what I am saying. Moving on. Just keep posting that Sporting Events are expensive and Disney is a bargain. Honestly, I don't know how people can say that a Disney trip is a bargain or even reasonable with a straight face. It's not like a ball game. Its not a concert. Its a week long spending extravaganza. For my upcoming trip, I am basically paying a day's ticket price for two days just so I can come in and by overpriced drinks and food from kiosks. I have a great time doing it. I save my money and use my rewards card points... But paying a $70.00 over charge is also outrageous (that is what my AP is averaging out to for me).

When people plan a Disney trip - the first thing I tell them is...It's complicated. Second I tell them, It is going to cost a lot of money. I would never tell them that it is cost effective. smh.
I totally agree, especially with the bolded.

I went to the Home Run Derby in Cincinnati a couple of months ago. It was extremely expensive, even compared to going to a regular game. We had very nice seats behind home plate and my ticket alone cost over $300. We stayed over night and my share of that cost me about $60. I had 3 beers that cost about $10 apiece at the Derby, and about $20 worth of questionable food there. We went out to eat in a couple of nice restaurants in the Cincy/Northern Kentucky area and my share of that was over $100. So my little sojourn in Cincy cost me a little over $500. Expensive? Oh yes. But it was about 1/10th the cost of a Disney vacation for a week for a family. With the way Disney front loads their ticket costs, even one day at WDW for my family and one night at even a value resort would cost significantly more than my Home Run Derby outing.

It's just not a good comparison, IMO.

Do a lot of people go to Disney World just for one day? Sure, there is a lot that can be done. But I think you also have to factor in the amount of time you stand in line waiting to do it.

My thought process is if you spent 9-13 hours at the MK one day, rode 12 attractions + watched a parade + watched fireworks, the total time you spent actually doing those things is probably less than 90 minutes. The rest of the time you spent waiting to do them.

Not too bad.

Of course I can't speak for everyone, but with winter in MN-2 weeks is heaven in FL.

So we often do the last week of Jan and the first week of FEb, then next year the middle 2 weeks of Jan. That way its $500 for the DVC AP for 28 days, $17 per day.

The BWV studio is 180 points the first year, and 152 the next year. We can sell our shares this afternoon for much more than we bought, so its safe to say we are basically staying on the cost of dues. That's about $64 a night (and no tax) the first year, and about $54 a night the second year. The rooms rent at BWV for about $289 to $400 a night otherwise.

Anyway, this way we only have to buy the AP every other year as well. Jan 24th, then 2 years later on Jan 24th.

So 2 weeks at a Deluxe resort, short walk to 2 parks for $830 (app $750 plus tax effective) about $53/night and $250 for a 14 day hopper, no car rental or bags to move with ME, Garden Grocer brings in the food, drinks and alcohol for the same price as a regular store.

Do we "choose" other stays some times-heck yea, love the 1 and 2BR units. But we don't have to, and its a better comparison to hotel rooms and offsite.

That is a crazy bargain! Way less than what I pay out for way more than what I get. I couldn't do it anyway though. I'm not retired and I have school kids. Enjoy.

You forgot all the theming and effects, the characters, the shows, and all the other things I mentioned..a full day there.

The same time you wait at the Racetrack gate, walking and climbing up to your seat and down a few times. Of the 1 hour concert you get 3 songs 15 minutes, with poor sound and the race when not in cautions and piting?....not much of a day there.
