Are Day by Day reservations really needed at the 11 month window??

Hi all,

New DVC member here  , just got my points a week or so ago.

I'm on the waitlist for any Sun-Thurs in Oct, Nov or beginning of Dec for a BCV Studio. I realized it was a long shot. I'm trying hard not be discouraged when I see reservations for rent that fit my waitlist request. :badpc:

But its got me thinking about our plans for next year..Late Oct Early Nov.. What are my chances for a 2 bedroom at BCV? Do I truely need to stress and do a day by day reservation at the 11 month mark?

What are everyone elses experiences? @ 11 months do you get what you want? I went with the "buy where you want to stay"..but it sounds like I still need to stress??

Looking for some advice from some experienced DVCers

We're first-time DVC points renters, our dates are Feb 28 - March 9 2007. We wanted a BWV Standard View Studio, very rare from what I'm told, and the DVC member we rented from did just as you suggest, she called 11 months out, booked that day, called the next day, added a day, etc., until we had the 9 days we wanted. Don't know if we would have gotten them all if she waited until 11 months out from the last day, but it all worked for us.

I booked day-by-day for a SV studio at BWV for Oct to reduce the stress! Once you knwo when your vacation is, it would dirve me crazy not to call and book the dates I could as soon as I could!

Booking day-by-day was not much a of a hassle because all the calls except the first one are very short. I didn't call as soon as MS opened (I'm here on the West Coast) and called even later in the day on Monday to avoid a long wait on hold. I even skipped one day when I got busy and forgot to call.

Best of luck -- Suzanne

I think you would be fine calling 11 months from your check out from BCV. Now, if you wanted a two bedroom dedicated with two queens in the second bedroom, you might want to call it in day by day and ask MS how it looks for the rest of your stay - are they going fast or has there not been much activity for that scenerio.

If you want somethng that you think everyone else wants, call day by day, We did it for our1 bedroom at VWL for Thanksgiving.

Personally, I don;t think your waitlist chanecs are very good right now for either Oct, Nov or Dec.

BCV is the smallest DVC and the Food and Wine is the most popular time to visit that resort. Given that information, I would probably make any reservations for that time at least at 11 months from the day of fina check-out, and as stated, if you are thinking of the 2 bedroom dedicated, do it day by day.

when your first day comes - call MS and ask them...

they can tell you then if you need to call daily or can wait.

if they say call daily - then DO it. if they say you can wait until the end - then you will be fine calling at the 11 month time for the entire reservation...

the hardest to get are standard view BWV.

but BCV is the most popular of the DVC resorts and will continue to be until DVC comes up with on the monrail DVC resort. It is also small...

I guess I look at day by day exactly the opposite as this....I do it to relieve the stress, not increase it. I'm agreeing with what SuzanneSLO said! ::yes::

I only use it for busy DVC season requests and to me it's much less stressful to call 11 months before the second day and get a feel for how hard it will be to get the reservations (as spiceycat describes).

Stressful to me would be to wait a week or so, wondering each day if I should be calling or not.

Thanks for all the advice.

I will probably do the day by day thing..I think the "stress" I'm feeling is the competition stress.... I have these points, I have the 11month window..but yet I still have possibility of not getting what I'm looking for due to everyone trying to call at 9AM on the 2nd day of the reservation.

Maybe I'm over-dramatizing that competition.

For DVC what are considered "slow" times?

Okay - when you do day by day...is the date the calendar date?

Say I want Sept 16..17..18..19 of 2007.
Do I call Oct 16..17..18..19 of 2006 or go by days of the week?

September 16 checks out on September 17, so it would be October 17 for the first night, then October 18 for September 17, and so on.

Maybe Jan, Sept, mid-late Aug but not Labor Day, early May. Any time that school kids are in school and Disney doesn't have any big events going on. Another way to figure it out? Disney puts out free dining or hurricane season.
