I'm making a woolen shawl on a large size L metal hook and would like to work on it during those long flight hours. I'm flying Continental, but I cannot find a list of banned items on their website. Have you been allowed to bring a crochet hook on a plane since 9/11?

I, too, was happy when I found out that I can either crochet or cross stitch on the plane. gives me something to pass the time....::yes::

bopeep

your url is a dead link....the **** seem to have something to do with it....

Not long after 9/11, a flight attendant pointed out to me that knitting needles were allowed on planes, but blunt scissors were not! I know a large crochet hook can't do much damage, but those knitting needles would have been more dangerous than blunt scissors or toenail clippers any day.

According to TSA you can have scissors with rounded tips, not sharp tips. Seems strange that you can have that stuff, but works for me!

Yep, the scissor (and toe nail clippers) thing has loosened up. My incident happened right after 9/11, when there was major paranoia and confusion. Oddly enough, I was allowed to bring bottles of wine onboard back then. A broken bottle would make a nasty weapon.

The lady sitting next to me on my last flight was crosheting. We got to talking about exactly this, and she said she had switched to plastic hooks to avoid any issues. Food for thought.
