Disney truly tries their best to provide connecting rooms to families who request it. But unlike Hilton or Marriott, there isn't a booking category in the Disney system for connecting rooms. As such, there may or may not be a sufficient number of connecting rooms for the families checking in on a particular day that have requested it because connecting rooms is a common request. The room assigners look at the notes in the reservation and prioritize the assignment of connecting rooms accordingly, but it's best to make connecting rooms your only request, and to be prepared with a plan if the rooms are not connecting (bring toiletries for 2 rooms, know how you will split, separate clothes based on the split, etc.).
