Are Christmas Week Rental Cars Always Expensive?

We're new to the idea of renting a car to get around at WDW. We've always relied on WDW transportation. But during our last trip to Vero Beach with a 1 day trip to the parks, we loved the convenience of renting a car so we want to do it again for our upcoming Christmas trip. We rented from Alamo a month ago at a reasonable price, approximately $250 for 3 days in a compact SUV. I looked at their rates for 5 days during the week of Christmas and was shocked the prices were so high! Over $600 just for 5 days in a sedan! Is this typical of rental car companies at the Orlando Airport? Is Christmas week always extremely high or is it just high because I'm trying to book the car last minute? Thanks for any insights you may have.

I have a 15 day rental in a full size for $336.xx total. This is more than I paid last Christmas.

Yes. Major "family" holidays are always expensive for car rentals, because those are peak demand periods. Not only do you have the vacationing tourists, but you also have the folks who are visiting snowbird parents, and MCO is the closest airport to the Villages.

Working hard with coupons and codes should take it down a bit, but don't expect cheap at all.
