I keep coming across threads mentioning the new whole wheat buns for hamburgers. (hot dogs, too) People say they are dry and crumble. ACK!

Does every CS restaurant serve whole wheat hamburger buns now? How about the table service restaurants? Sci Fi? :confused3

We came across the hot dog ones at Old Port Royale and Restaurantosaurus. They just fell apart in the kids hands and they had to eat the dog without a bun. I don't know where else they are. I didn't notice a problem with my hamburger at OPR.

For all the complaints I have heard about these I NEVER had them fall apart on me.:confused3But yes all the CS are the whole grain buns, and some of the TS too , but MOST of the TS still have white buns

Seems to be any of the Disney managed CS locations.
So for example the Pepper Market has proper rolls since it is not managed by Disney.

The staff and the customers all seem to be very unhappy about this from what I have read\heard and seen.
(review this thread from the beginign of the month for more details http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2321643)

Hopefully they will give us a choice in the future, but I would not get your hopes up.

They have also replaced the 100%beef hotdogs with some king of mystery meat hotdog (chicken and beef mix maybe?).

I have also heard that they have replaced the burgers at beaches and cream with the standard CS burger. Hopefully we will not see this at other TS locations.

Hotdogs at Casey's Corner on Main Street in the MK has the wheat buns. We had them on our trip in March, and the hotdogs and fixins were as great as always, but the buns were dry and fell apart after the first bite. Made a heck of a mess.

They are trying to make our food more healthy!

We had the hamburger ones last week and I noticed all the CS locations had them. They actually taste fine but it that fact that they are so crumbly that is annoying. The minute you bite into them, you notice they crack. They didn't actually fall apart but they definitely get cracks.

They are served at all Disney-managed CS locations. As was mentioned, Pepper Market is not run by Disney, so they might have different buns. Other than the DTD CS (McDonalds, Puck, Earl of Sandwich and Cookes of Dublin, none of which are run by Disney) that is the only option for non-Disney buns.

Generally TS restaurants don't seem to have them, although there was at least one report that Beaches & Cream is using them.

Every CS we ate at recently had the whole wheat buns. And every one was in a dozen sloppy pieces by the time we got haflway done with our burgers. I don't mind whole wheat bread and rolls, but for crying out loud, get some that don't disintegrate the minute you pick them up!

We had them on our trip recently too. My DH was not happy at all. He doesn't like wheat bread nor wheat rolls. He said he should be given a choice. I don't think that will happen. We noticed a lot of different food changes this time on the DDP than last year.

Nope, you won't be given a choice. Either these are really healthier and Disney cares about its guests' health (or it wants to be able to tell the Surgeon General that) or they're cheaper and the health thing is a smokescreen. Take your pick.

I understand the pizza crusts are now whole grain as well but that does not seem to generate the complaints that the buns do.

Too bad that, on balance, whole wheat grains are most often no better, and sometimes worse, for you than the other alternatives. My vote is the choice was made either for cost or to portray the perception of health (to sell more).

Of course, given the nitrites in the hot dogs, the buns should be the least of our worries...

[/soapbox]

I am a VERY picky eater and was VERY unhappy when I found out they switched to whole wheat buns as I hate ANYTHING whole wheat. And I have to say I didn't mind the difference. It was very subtle.

I'm guessing cheaper. I eat whole wheat just about exclusively except when I'm at WDW. There is no excuse for crumbly buns. That's a sign of cheap, often stale, bread.

We just got back.

I love hamburgers.
I had one the first day, and it was gross. I tried again a few days later, and it was still gross.

The buns are terrible. They do fall apart, and are dry.
Even the meat is yucky now.
What a shame. I would eat a hamburger every day if they were good!

I never really noticed the buns falling apart and I had several cheeseburgers during my trip in Oct.

Maybe I am just lucky with buns??

*wink*

I agree that Disney could at least use quality products. There are certainly whole wheat products out there that don't crumble and fall apart. And this for what they charge?

I don't like this at all. I am kind of a picky eater and I love all beef hot dogs but no "mystery" meat mixtures. I usually get a lot of hot dogs at the CS. :( Also the wheat buns sound bad. :(
