Aquasox at Blizzard Beach

What is the policy regarding wearing aquasox to the Disney waterparks. (Aquasox, for the uninitiated have soft rubbery soles (like flip flops), but the rest of the shoe is a fine mesh material, often sold for use at the beach to both protect the bottoms of your feet from unseen hazards while being secure (they won't slip off), and allow the water in.

I was thinking about taking a pair to Blizzard Beach as I HATE walking barefoot on concrete (often hot) and some anti-skid surfaces can be painful. Anyone forsee problems wearing auqsox to Blizzard Beach, and especially on the slides or in the pools.

While I am thinking about it... I wonder if the Kali River Rapids crew would mind if I changed to my Auqasox (before reaching the loading platform of course) to ride... No wet socks or squishy shoes then!

Yes, you can wear them. I went to TL last summer and bought a pair just for that. It really helps when walking on the hot cement.

I was able to wear mine on everything except the body slides. I actually wear Tevas. I was told any shoes are okay as long as they don't have metal buckles. No shoes of any kind are allowed on the body slides.

Definately wear them! My Mom burned the bottom of her feet at Blizzard Beach. They don't have any kind of cooling system. After her letter to them they did install a spray system in some parts but still not great. And there is not too much shade here as well. Wear those and bring them from home- they sell ones there now for a price.

Plus, the walk ways can become slippry when wet. The AquaSox have a pretty good traction to the sole. I know my boys or I would've falllen for sure without them (OK, I was the more likely candidate....grace is not my middle name, lol). We used ours for the resort pools as well...no lost socks, wet sneakers, etc.

Haven't tried them for Kali Rapids....interested to know if this is OK. Might have to give it a try in June! ::MickeyMo

You can buy watersocks just about anywhere in swim season; even grocery stores carry them in a lot of places (including the midwest where I live). In season, you should be able to get cheap ones for about $5.

This pair is more upscale than the usual ones; these are Tevas with a sneaker-type sole, but they will do for an illustration: http://www.rei.com/online/store/Pro...category_rn=4501262&vcat=REI_SSHP_FOOTWEAR_LD

There is also such a thing as real water *socks*; they are laminated long socks that keep your feet dry when you are boating and your boots get full of water. Commercial fisherman sometimes wear them. I've never seen anyone wear those at a waterpark, though!

If you can't wear the aquasocks on a body slide, can you carry them down the slide clutched to your chest if you are sliding down on your back? Otherwise I'm assuming you'd have to find a place to leave them and have to make the trek back up to retrieve? Can you do this?

Side Note: I have learned a great pre-BB lesson via a day spent at a small local water park last summer. I was unable to last a full day because my feet were painfully sore from walking barefoot on the concrete and parts of the concrete got egg-frying hot. I had to just sit there for two to three hours while the rest of my family had a blast--felt like a wimp. Man was that boring. I can't even contemplate going without aquasocks in future. With all the walking that you do in WDW, you gotta take care of the feet! Interesting that the rest of the family were okay going bare, I just happen to have sensitive feet I guess.

I forgot about this - for it has been a couple of years since we went to BB. When we went we wore our water shoes and you wouldn't believe the amount of people that commented on how they wish they had them. I couldn't imagine being there without them. :sunny:

I had a friend who used to work at a waterpark tell me to never let my kids wear these on a waterslide. I think he was mainly talking about the 'tube' type slides. He said he had seen so many broken toes from people catching the shoes on the sides of the slides. With the rubber they catch easier than a bare foot would. We do wear them to walk around and also in the wavepool and lazy river.

That is what I did. I put the straps around my wrists, crossed by arms on my chest, and headed on down. No problems for me. I too have to wear shoes going up and down stairs and across the cement. I wore the shoes on my feet on all tube rides and mat slides. Only the body slides where it is just you and the water was I required to take them off.
