What are the lines like realistically?

I have 2 boys (5 &6) who are autistic ( both high functioning ) and waiting over 15 minutes in any line is not going to happen.

Most likely you will wait over 15 minutes but there may be some times with hardly any wait at all. You stand on stairs outside and it can be very windy. Then you go inside and slowly move up the stairs -- kind of hot and stuffy. We had a very obnoxious group of teens in front of us -- they even said, "we're probably annoying everyone" and waiting 20 minutes in line behind them was not fun. Hopefully you can find a not busy time.

There are times that the lines will be short to non-existent, but these aren't necessarily your most popular pool times. During the afternoons, expect long lines. Morning when first opening (I forget what time) and evenings during first dinner seating are rather quiet. Also, port days might be slow, particular earlier - we stayed onboard in Nassau and it was great until about 2-3pm when everyone started returning from excursions. The morning of our sea-day was also a great time to do the pools and aquaduck, it got crowded around noon.

One thing...I don't recall the height requirements. Make sure both boys are tall enough so you don't end up with a meltdown onboard as you try to enter the ride. And with 2 young ones, again depending on height, you may need a second adult unless one is tall enough to ride alone. There are 2 separate height requirements - lowest is to ride at all, and a taller one to be able to ride alone. Only 2 passengers per ride.

Enjoy your cruise!

On the Dream we went on the Duck around 11am on CC day. Our wait in line was probably between 5-10 minutes.

  • AquaDuck is designed for adults and children at least 42" or taller
  • Single riders must be at least 54" or taller
  • Children under 7 must ride with someone 14 years of age or older, provided the child is at least 42" tall
  • No snorkel equipment or swim goggles are allowed in the pool

I just got off the Fantasy today. If you're looking for shorter lines on the AquaDuck, I would try to do the following.

  • Get on the ship as early as possible and go straight to the AquaDuck. We got the earliest arrival time and rode the AquaDuck several times as soon as we got on-board. The line gets much longer as more people get on the ship.
  • Go at night. The lines were shorter during late dinner. We had early dinner, so I can't say whether the lines are shorter during early dinner. We even ran to the AquaDuck after the performance show one night and the lines were very short.
  • Wait until later in the cruise. The AquaDuck is very busy on the first 1 or 2 sea days. On the 3rd sea day (day 6), the lines were much shorter, even in the afternoon.

the first day of the cruise the line is at least 40-50 minutes....if you have second seating dinner by the time people leave for 1st seating the line is ten minutes,....

towards the end of the cruise there will be times where it will take longer to walk up the stairs to the start of the ride than any wait on line...

I saw this note about goggles on the DCL site too...are they talking about regular swim goggles (speedo type) or a swim mask? My DS always swims with regular goggles...thanks!

No goggles allowed at all - I believe they don't want the risk of them falling off and getting stuck somewhere. There were times when I saw it aquaduck turned off and guys walking through it that appeared to be looking for something.

You also can't take sunglasses with you either or shoes. It sounds strange, but when it's hot, the deck and stairs you wait on line on get pretty hot! They have cubbies to put your stuff in before you wait on line. The attendant will stop you if you have shoes/sandals/glasses.

I take it as snorkel equipment means a swim mask (along with snorkel and fins) and swim goggles means just that, swim goggles. Nothing that covers your eyes is allowed.

I would get them on while everyone is eating breakfast, then you eat breakfast after. Reversing what others are doing;-) or if you want to miss a show or go at night.

My 6 yo with with HFA was able to handle the line for the AquaDuck, even when it was > 15 minutes. If they are tall enough, give it a shot!

We did it few times with less than a 5 minute wait on our Western Fantasy...the first time was around 9:30 on Cozumel Day before we got of the ship (no wait at all, walked right on), the second time was around 8:00 or 8:30 one night (waited for one or two people ahead of us) and the third time was on the afternoon when we returned to the ship on Cozumel Day around 4:00 (waited about 5 minutes). So you can get lucky and find times without a wait :)

I can't remember from our 2011 cruise ... if we wear water shoes, are they allowed to be kept on while riding the Aquaduck? The whole purpose of those over our regular crocs is that the stairs up to it can get really really hot.

We have friends travelling with us and I don't want to tell them to absolutely go out and buy everyone water shoes if they're going to have to remove them just like they would crocs or flip flops.

TIA !

We all wore tight-on-the-feet water shoes and no one told us to take them off. You WILL burn your feet on that deck, if you aren't wearing something!

I wore my KEEN sandals every time I went on it, no issue. Maybe they mean tennis shoes?

Your best bet is to go on the Aquaduck when in port. We choose to do this when at Castaway Cay the first time on our cruise. There was NO wait. As fast as we were able to get up the stairs, we could ride the Aquaduck!

Enjoy!
