We did this tour last Sunday, we want to go back:( We did this tour because we thought it would be very interesting and we were right. DH was a little nervous about the scuba-assisted snorkeling since our only experience was at Shark Reef, but once we started he was fine.

We met outside Epcot at Guest Relations. Our tour guide, Leslie, was a few minutes late and we were worried we'd be forgotten about since we were the only 2 there. Never fear, Leslie and the diver who watched us (can't remember her name) came out for us.

She took our shoe sizes and the size of the t-shirt we would like as well as our room keys for the Platinum Plan information. After this we walked towards the Living Seas and she pointed out their filtration systems and explained how they worked. I asked what they did during the hurricanes and she explained that they have a ride-out team ready for situations like that and they stay at their posts through the storm.

We went backstage in the Living Seas and she walked us through some of the exhibits including the manatees (went onstage and backstage for this one), went backstage near the dolphins, got to see food preparation and saw the divers right before feeding time. We watched a brief video about what we were to do/not do, how to identify some of the fish, and how to get into what we were to wear.

She led us to the locker rooms and gave us keys. Over one of the changing/shower room doors was a bag with my name on it and my lovely short wet suit and booties in it. We both changed, and when we came out she took our keys. We went upstairs to the tank and once more they explained the dive gear to us. It's just like snorkeling excpet instead of the breathing tube type thing (I really know all the technical terms, right?! lol), there's a tank for your air and a PSI reader thingy. If it went to the orange area or below 500 you had to come back for a new tank, or if it was less than 5 min. until the end of your time just sit it out. There were flotation things on either side of the air tank, so there was no way you could go below the surface.

At this point there were 3 more new people who would be snorkeling, but it seemed like they were on their own tour, they had a different guide, etc.

Once we were in our gear, but before the snorkel masks went on, they took our picture. After that it was time for the fun to begin:D We had to stay at least 10 feet away from the dolphins' wall, but other than that we could go wherever. We also couldn't touch the 'coral', chase the fish, or touch them. So we swam everywhere we could and it was so much fun! I waved to some of the people on the observation level and in the Coral Reef, got to see the VIP room with the glass piano, plus lots and lots of fish. Halfway through our time the sea turtle came out, even more fun :D I only jumped once, because I was contemplating the fact that the sharks really looked close, even though she said they wouldn't bother us... Then a fish swam right past my nose - lol!! My favorite parts were following the rays, watching fish eat the broccoli and other greens they tethered to the bottom (we'd been shown this before we suited up), and the sea turtle.

When our 30 min. was up, the divers came up to us to tell us we should head back to the platform. My only slight problems were that my mouth was dry and I managed to tighten one of the flippers a bit too much.

We were shown to the locker rooms again, given a chance to shower (aloe vera body wash, shampoo, and conditioner provided for me, other more "manly-smelling" body wash and conditioner for DH - lol!). There was a hair dryer in the locker room as well although I didn't really bother (my hair's long, it takes a bit, and I figured it'd dry in the sun later).

After that, Leslie led us into the same room where we'd seen the video. We got our complimentary sodas, t-shirts, pictures, and conservation pins (I was surprised they don't make special pins for the Living Seas tours). We filled out a survey, and were shown out into Epcot.

It was great that it was just the 2 of us on the tour, we could ask all of the questions we wanted, and we felt very relaxed. We would definitely do this tour again, we both really enjoyed it.

We were on the Platinum Plan for this portion of our trip, so the tour was included. Otherwise it's $100/person. We were told that most of the $ goes towards the Wildlife Conservation Fund, which we thought was great.

Any questions? I'd be happy to answer:D

What a great time. I would love to do this

For a great review I enjoyed reading it.::yes:: :wave2:

How long did the whole thing last? I was thinking of surprising DD with this. She's a conservation biology major at school. I just don't know if she'd be able to keep her hands off the fish. She just loves this type of thing.

Thanks,
Tammi

From start to finish it took a bit over 2 hours. They came out around 12:35 for us and we finished around 2:40. Keep in mind that it was just the 2 of us, I think if there were more in the group it might take longer.

HTH :D

Wow!!! Sounds like you have a great time. We did the Dolphins in Depth tour this past Sept and heard about this tour and are thinking of giving it a try. Thanks for the review.

WOW - thanks so much for the detailed review! My dd and I are doing this for her 8th b-day on Sunday (Dec 6th). It is a surprise for her - she will be so excited to swim with the fish! She is a great swimmer and a huge nature lover. Who knows - it may spark an early career decision!

I was wondering - is the water cold? Were there any other children on the tour when you did it? 8 is the yougest age they will allow on the tour. I hope my dd doesn't have any trouble with the scuba gear. That will be the most intimidating thing for us both to overcome.

Can you advise on a good spot for my DH to stand and watch for us (he doesn't swim!)? Where could he see us best - from inside the Living Seas exhibit or in the restaurant?

Finally - will they allow us to use a disposable underwater camera? My DD has to write a trip report as part of her homework for missing school - I think pictures would add a lot! I know this adventure will be the highlight of her trip!

Again, thanks so much for your report - I'm so excited about this now!!

I think the water is around 76 degrees F - trust me, once you're in the water looking around you won't notice a thing... On our tour the youngest was 24, although he acts 8 at times (DH) ;)

All of the gear will be explained to you several times, it does seem scary at first but again once you're in the water you're watching everything and probably won't think about it anymore. They show you a video, talk you through it, then help you into the gear. There are also 2 divers in the water with you, I'm sure if you just raised your head or hand they'd be there in a sec to answer any questions you'd have.

What I would recommend is trying to snorkel at Shark Reef before you go to get used to breathing through only your mouth. It took me one time across to feel comfortable there, DH took about 8 times to feel okay. So by the time Aqua Seas rolled around, we were both fine. The only difference between Seas and snorkeling is the scuba gear. When you exhale there will be bubbles, and you have to check your PSI thing every so often - they'll show you how to do this too.

Your DH could stand on the observation platform between the dolphin area and the tank and be able to see you just fine. We walked on-stage through this area, so if he hung out there, your tour guide could point him to where he'd be able to see you guys. The tour guide could also point out to you where you'll swim in order to see him.

I don't know about cameras, but it couldn't hurt to ask :D I know you can take pictures at Shark Reef though.

Have a great time, I wish we could it do it again next Sunday!!!

Thank you very much for the detailed review of this tour.. I had planned to do this and after reading this review.. I now HAVE to do this tour. Glad you had a good time.

Jamie, thanks for the info. I reserved a spot for my DD on 12/12. I'm sure she's going to love it.

I understand that cameras, plus any other personal items except for your own mask, are prohibited.

is there a link that posts all the information on this swim? As in times, days offered? :scratchin

I did the swim in May. It was fantastic. I felt like a star waving to all the people in the Living Sea's. I can't wait to do it again with my kids.

If I remember correctly the tour is done daily. I paid for mine with a Disney Visa and it was only $80, which was well worth it to me.

Thanks for the great review! My dh and my two older kids have reservations for the Aqua tour on Oct. 1. I think it sounds fabulous. Have to admit, though, that I'm a little nervous about the 10 year old monitoring his own psi. Hopefully dh will stay on top of it...but sometimes he gets so wrapped up in his own thing :guilty:

Cheers,
NB
