Aqua Duck breaks down a lot?

Just back from our first cruise, and the Dream was amazing. My ONLY disappointment was the Aquaduck, which stopped working for long periods of time (with kids stuck in it) twice in the first two hours we were on the ship. One of the crew members said that's normal. Is it??

In my experience, yes, it happens somewhat frequently. How long were these long periods of closure? In my experience, it might close for 20 minutes or so to unstick someone and get it reset, but I wouldn't consider that a long period to be closed.

Frequently, yes. But as the previous poster said, usually it isn't for very long. When going through Aquaduck pics to tag them for our Shutters account we found one of a kid who wasn't on a raft!

Thats creepy! Did the people just sit there? I think i would have wanted to crawl out!

Thoughts?

How do you get stuck? Is there a section they get stuck more often? Does it happen more often after mealtime? Do they send a big crew member down the tube like a drain cleaner to clear the blockage?

I think it's usually on the dip section. The kids are not heavy enough to get the momentum necessary to get back over the hump. The Aqua Duck is cool, but I have a hard time justifying the time in line to ride it more than once or twice for the trip

Also want to mention that I have seen times where it's not closed to double riders but closed to single riders due to high winds.

How am I supposed to know, lol? They would not let me ride single and I needed a second person to ride due to high winds they said. I got a second person and they let us ride.

I believe you, I just don't get how the winds affect anything since I thought the Aquaduck was closed?? Someone with more physics knowledge than me will hopefully explain.

I do understand the weight issue and how that affects the raft, but the wind has me baffled unless you need more weight to keep the raft and people from blowing off altogether, in which case, YIKES!!!:scared:

The more weight in the raft the more momentum the raft has when facing the wind. There's the part of the slide where it dips down then shoots up a hill, assisted by the water jets. That portion of the slide is not completely enclosed. A rider can get stuck if there isn't enough momentum to get up the hill. If a wind is blowing against the raft, it needs more momentum than normal to get up the hill. Think of throwing something against the wind. If you throw a rock into the wind, it might not go as fast or as far as if there were no wind, but it's still going to get pretty far. If you toss a cotton ball into the wind, it's not going to go far and might end up behind you because there's not enough mass to keep the forward motion against the wind. Same with Aquaduck riders, facing a wind, there needs to be more mass on the raft to keep the raft moving forward.

Thanks for the explanation. I didn't know wind was coming into part of the slide.

Last time we cruised, the 3rd clear pipe section came loose where the slide is over the edge of the ship and a couple of people took a long drop into the Gulf. Somehow they stayed on the tube and the ship swung around and picked them up. Pretty wild. I think they got a voucher for free massages at the spa.

That's a new one. When did this happen?
