can you order a ap online? and do you get it in the mail? or have to go to wdw to pick up, and do you get your pic on it?tia!

We get the florida Ap and we have to get them at guest relations
and as far as I know theres no pic on the Ap.

I beleave you get a voucher then turn that in at the guest relations for the AP.

Ron.

At one time your AP's had your picture on it, but not now. You will receive a voucher from WDW and turn it in at guest relations for your AP.

I don't know about ordering your AP online.

The official WDW website allows you to oder AP's online, you get a voucher in the mail and have to have it activated, depending on how long it is before you leave for your trip. Currently there are no pictures on your AP. At least that was how it worked last year when my aunt and grandmother did it.

You can buy the vouchers online or at your local Disney Store, then redeem them at any Guest Relations when you get there. There are no pictures on them, they use the finger scans now instead for adults only.

So adults get their finger prints scanned when they activate at guest services? I take it children do not get their fingerprints scanned.

It actually is not a scan of your fingerprints. It is a biometric scan of your bone structure using your index and middle fingers. And you are correct, this is not done for children.

Thanks Karen! We're planning on buying AP's for the first time for our next trip(s)!!

There is a guest relations at Downtown Disney also if you want to get your AP there. That is what I did on my last trip and found it easier. Have fun.

A complete rundown of the AP process so people don't have to fish through the posts...:

1.) Purchase
  • In Advance: You can purchase an Annual Pass in one of four places before you leave. You can purchase it at the Disney Store, from 407-WDISNEY, or from www.disneyworld.com. In any of these instances, you will receive a voucher. The voucher must be activated. More on that later. The fourth option is to purchase it at the Ocala Disney Information Center off of I-75. When you purchase here, you do not get a voucher. You receive an ACTIVE PASS.
  • In Orlando: No matter which of these locations you choose from, when you purchase an Annual Pass, you receive an ACTIVE PASS, not a voucher. They can be purchased at: Major Park (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney Studios, Animal Kingdom) Ticket Windows, Guest Relations at any of the park as well as Downtown Disney locations, The Magic of Disney Store, Disney's Earport (both at Orlando International Airport), Character Warehouse, and Character Premiere (both at the Belz Mall), and Character Premiere at the Premium Outlet Mall.
  • Discounts? Not unless you are a Florida Resident. I believe there might be a discount for military personnel, but I'm not certain.

2.) Activate
  • Once a pass is active, you have 366 days to use your pass. What this means is that it will expire on the same DATE one year from activation. So if you activate your pass on August 15, 2004, it will be active until August 15, 2005. This is where the difference is key between an active pass, and a voucher. If you purchase from any of the Orlando locations (as well as the Ocala Information Center), your pass expires one year from the date you purchased it - because it is activated WHEN you purchase it. If you have a voucher, the countdown starts at activation.
  • So how do you activate the darn thing?! :teeth: Take it to any of the following locations (along with a picture ID if you're an adult - children don't need ID): Any of the Major Park (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney Studios, Animal Kingdom) Ticket Windows, Guest Relations at the parks, or to Guest Relations at Downtown Disney. You are then issued your active annual pass. It will look like almost any other ticket you'll use. (Unless you buy your tickets at the Disney Store, or have them coded onto your room key) They are the mylar material. Looks like cardboard, but I DARE you to try and rip the thing. MUCH easier said than done! Your photo will NOT be on it, but your name will be.

3.) Enjoy!
  • Once you've got your pass, go ahead and use it. When you put it into the mag stripe reader at the turnstiles, you will need to do a biometric scan. As has been said, this is NOT a fingerprint reader, or a "scan" in the traditional word. It takes measurements of the bones in your fingers, and assigns you a number based on the measurements it takes. The first time you use your pass, it takes those measurements and assigns you the numbers. On subsequent visits, it's verifying that your biometric scan matches the number it recorded from that first use.
  • A few things can throw off the biometric scan. If you have arthritis, or don't put your fingers in exactly the same way as the first time you used the pass - it won't match up. The CM manning the turnstiles then has to override it. It's always a good idea to have ID with you, so that if a problem happens, you can just flash the ID, and get by! :)
  • IF the scan doesn't match up, there's two different ways that a CM can override the system. One of those ways makes it look like you didn't use your AP for entry. So when you try to get a fastpass, the fastpass machine will think you didn't use your admission, and will not give you a fastpass. Just explain to the Fastpass CM the situation, and they can issue you a fastpass.

What is the cost of AP's at the gate?

We are trying to figure out if we should buy them ahead of time here in Canada or once there...

AP's are the same price no matter where you buy them, including the gate. I just purchased mine off of Waltdisneyworld.com and I believe it was just over $400 after tax.

do they scan all "adult" AP holders ... my daughter just turned 11, will she be expected to do the scan too because she has to have an adult ticket?

My guess is yes, but I'm not absolutely sure. It's really no big deal either way.
