April Vacation (17-23) compared to July 4th week

Hi everyone -- Hoping someone has some insight -- went last year the week of July 4th stayed onsite (rental points at OKW) and was wondering how April vacation week stacked up (this is also easter week) touring plans says its all 10's I think they said 9's for July 4th week . we are also staying off site - have you ever known them to close the parks to outsiders during this week in April.. We've been both weeks and have found the week of Easter busier than the week of the 4th and, yes, they have closed parks. We've been there when they've closed AK and MK. The day of the 4th is busier, in our experience, than Easter, however.

If your only choice is between two holiday weeks then I'd go in April ... for the weather alone.

That is true - July 4 is typically brutally hot. We usually go every 4th for the fireworks alone - there's nothing like standing on the bridge in between France and GB sipping a Gunniess and watching 30 minutes of fireworks...

Thanks -- so you have seen them close to the general public during april vacation/easter week?
and to clarify a little - We went over the 4th last year I was trying to get a comparision (sp) of the two weeks. We didn't go near the parks on the 4th went to BB instead and saw alot of the horrible traffice trying to get to the HDDR but the rest of the week it was ok hot and crowded but we did what we really wanted.

We have seen them close Easter week. AK is so large I was shocked to see it closed. We were at the MK and my parents were at AK that day. We still tell horror stories about the crowds...

BTW, because of the forecast for rain last year, crowds on the 4th were lighter than we've seen in the past. 2 years ago the monorail lines were 2 hours long and the line to exit Epcot's front gait from WS started in Canada...

Does anyone have any idea if it will be busier the week leading UP TO Easter - or the week AFTER Easter?? We will be there 4/18 - 25th. Usually that week isn't so bad even tho it is our srping break, but I am not sure what to expect with it also being Easter...

According to Disney, the busiest time for Easter will be April 9 - 22.

My husband is a teacher and has a week in April for spring break. We've gone to Disney numerous times during this week. Most times it's wonderful, BUT when it happens to fall during Easter week it's a toally different experience. This year spring break is during Easter week, so yes it will be very crowded. We;ve been when Easter was at the beginning and when it was at the end. Both very crowded times. For future info, when the vacation does NOT include Easter it is not nearly as crowded. As for if it is worse than July? We've only been once during 4th of July and would not go again. We do go during the last part of August and I can tell you that Easter week is MUCH more crowded. In the end, most people can only go certain times. Not all of us have the luxury of being able to schedule our vacations around crowds, etc. We've been at many different times of the year and have always had a great time. As long as you know ahead of time and plan accordingly you will be fine. The weather is April is wonderful.

Just to clarify, if they do "close the park" due to the crowds, if you arrive early enough in the day you shouldn't have any problem getting in, whether you're staying on-site or not.

I would just recommend being there in time for the park opening, and you should be fine. Of course, if you want to beat the crowds, you'll probably want to get there by opening anyway...
