*April PreTrip & Trip Reports*

I would never have thought about fax requests (because it sounds very 1999!) but I signed up for touring plans, and they offer to fax a request for you. So I guess maybe it's still a thing? I didn't do it because I don't really care which site we get as long as it's in 1500. 2000 looks fine too but we are at the pool a lot, and 1500 is so much closer.

Two more days til we're on the road!

On the road woot woot Weather sucks and it's windy as all get out but we are on our way. Plan is to drive from home ( Cincinnati) and stop at the pilot truck stop at the FL GA boarder that has dedicated RV parking and drive the last 4 hours in the morning to get to camp nice and early. Hope our 3 kids hold out for 12 hours of driving lol

Yikes.... That's a long drive to make on the "First Leg". Do you have another driver with you? With us (coming from NEPA) it's only me driving, so I find it tough to do that.

I will say, however, leaving the Fort and coming home last time (leaving early evening), when we left, we (or rather ME) drove to the Rest Stop just inside the GA border. Slept for several hours. Got up next AM, had breakfast in the TT, and I did the Marathon run from there of the almost 900 miles home. Sadly, I only have the "Stock" gas tank (Yes, it's GAS too) of about 35 Gallons, so I have to stop about every 300 or so miles to gas up. It was a long drive too.

I guess if I left early enough I could do the reverse, but we actually take a more leisurely travel down (~5 hours first night, ~12 hours second day, ~2 or less hours last morning - all including stops for gas/food/potty)

There is no need to fax if you use the Early Check-in option on My Disney Experience. It has an option to request a loop and in using it three times they always have the request noted. Faxes require a person to pick up the fax, read it, and act on it if they have time or so choose. The MDE option is automated and flows through.

Just sayin'.

Just had a similar conversation with my desktop department. One of my staff's copier/printer/fax just croaked and needed a new one. I put in a ticket for a HP laserjet that was in our service catalog. I got an email asking if we really needed the fax, because the tech doesn't "think anyone knows how to use that anymore."

Cincy is only 10-11 hours to the Fl/Ga line. A little less than your day 2. I do the same from St Louis going down. It's about 11 1/2 drive hours, but with DW and DS having micro-bladders and actually wanting to eat more than once, it takes 13-14... And even though DW and DS have driver's licenses, I get the pleasure of driving all the way with the trailer on.

Been told by more than one CM that faxes are not encouraged AT ALL. The paper is too easily lost and not placed on file. The early check in option completely replaced this as Ed noted.

We leave tomorrow morning! Just one last day of work and school! Hubby's actually got a half day and is going to do a bunch of last minute errands. (The puppy really needs to go to the groomers and get the mud, sticks and mats out of his coat.)

I can't find my email with the hyperlink to the Ft. Wilderness newsletter you get at check in. Disney sent it to me a week or so ago and it was the March "things to do at Ft. Wilderness". I was planning on checking back on that link to see if I could see the April movie schedule. Guess I'll have to wait one more day :)

DW doesn't have a Micro-Bladder, but since she had her gall bladder roomed in her teens, when she needs to go, it's "NOW" with little warning. That is why she really likes the camper. Always a facility available with short notice.

I guess this is a good thing about only being able to get about 300 miles per tank, we have to stop for bathroom, food and Gas. It also allows me to "Stretch" and I really enjoy that. (It sucks getting older)

Normally I fax in my request. I did the online check in with early check in option but for the life of me I can't get the loop request to open. Any hints here ofther than calling. I used my desk top computer. Should I try my mobile ??

On a Happy Note today is my 7 day countdown until we leave. Next Friday we will get the kids out of school early and hit the road around 2pm Orlando time. Then drive to Ocala or Wildwood where I am considering getting an overnight site. Mainly just to have air and tv without taking the generator to use at the rest stop. Previously we stayed at the Ocala Sun and it was okay. This time considering the Wildwood KOA. Either way I will wake at dawn Saturday and roll into the Fort and wake up the guard. If my site is ready I will unhook and head to Blizzard Beach followed with and afternoon at AK. If it's not ready I will leave the girls at BB and go set up the camper when the site is ready. Then we'll spend the evening at the Fort.

We left at 5:30 AM from just north of Atlanta. So far:
My epileptic son took longer than normal to be woken up (we think he may have had a seizure just before we came to wake him. He's fine now.)
The refrigerator won't work on propane
We ran into two major areas of congestion on I 75
And we lost air in one of the fifth wheel tires, which brought it down to 19 psi. Half hour delay getting it fixed. (Valve stem)

But... We're still pointed in the right direction and moving forward!

Sorry you're having problems. Hope you arrive safely.

Sorry you're having problems. Hope you arrive safely.

Life would be boring without problems though, wouldn't it?

More problems ensued, and I won't be A downer any more and tell you all about them. Instead...

We got our site texted to us! Yay! It said with our Magic Bands we can go right on in and to our site! And even better, we're in our oft requested, never till now granted 700 loop!

Napria, so glad you got 700 loop. It is our favorite, but am always happy if I am at the fort. The traffic south on 75 was not great today out of Atlanta. We will be leaving on Friday April 15, after traffic clears but hoping we can get through that construction.

Awesome so glad you got your request. Save us a spot. We'll be there bright and early Saturday.

Napria, Happy for you that you got into the 700 loop. We are also hoping to get the 700 loop but will just be happy to be at the Fort. Please send along a picture of your setup when you can.

Garneska, We are also leaving on April 15 but will take a couple days to get there since we are driving about 1300 miles and 10 hrs. is my max time behind the wheel.

Jeffery1966, hear you on the no more than 10 hours. We will actually stop Friday at Ocala Sun for an overnight. Saturday we should be in early so hopefully get a site and not have to go in overflow. We will drive about 7 hours Friday and then have 1.5 hours on Saturday. When we leave Disney we do it all in one day.

After a 17 hour drive from PA we finally made it! At check in we were given 1514, but after driving around that loop we decided it was too crowded (didn't like the sites on top of each other) so we drove around the 2000 loop and liked that much more. We went back to the desk and asked for that instead, and ended up with a fantastic site across from the comfort station and just steps away from the bus.

Pre trip: we did our last long run today in prep for the dark side half. Then we had spa day for the dogs. Mallory gets a trim and a backend bath. Yeti got trimmed, brushed, and deodorizer on him. Everyone smells good. Dogs are ready to go. Next weekend we will head to the rig and load up some stuff.

Can't wait to hear how everyone is doing. Hope the weather stays amazing for all there now.
