When is a less crowded time to go to Disneyland, mid-to-late April or mid-to-late May (avoiding Memorial day of course)? I know that in April there could still be some schools having Spring Breaks...but are there many schools across the country whose school year ends in May? Schools in my area seem to end around the 1st week in June, but I've heard of some ending in May.

I was kind of wondering the same thing. I have a friend that wants to plan a spring trip also, but avoid spring break. I remember last year there was a thread where everyone posted when spring break was in their area. That was VERY helpful *HINT HINT;)* for those of us wanting to avoid the huge spring crowds.

It depends on the year. This year there will be crazy crowds at DLR during late April and May because of the new World of Color show opening on April 24 - especially on days when SoCal APs are not blocked. The days right before WoC will be the least crowded this this year. Say April 15-23.

See "Understanding AP Blockouts and Impact on Crowds" http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2365983

I'm planning on next year (2011), so the WoC debut won't impact me.

Another site online mentioned that they absolutely expected soft openings for WoC--IF those occur, I'm not so sure about the weeks before it opens being pleasant. (Of course, if they have soft openings but no one expects them, then you'd get the double bonus of a not-crowded park with a great show! )

Of course, after the Fantasmic! debacle, I wouldn't bet that it will even open on time (though they're certainly going to try)...let alone that they'd be able to have soft openings before then.
