Up nice and early today for our traditional first morning at Animal Kingdom, Alan will not budge at all on this. We got the bus from the Lodge and we didnt have to wait long. We exchanged our Premium Annual pass vouchers when we arrived at AK, I ended up with Soarin on my pass and Lights, Cameras, Action was on DH.
Breakfast is always at Donalds Breakfastsuaruas and we have never had a bad experience here, the food is lovely and plentiful. We had some vouchers for this breakfast that I brought on Ebay which made it a bargain too.
After breakfast whilst we were in DinoLand U.S.A. we headed over to Dinosaur, now this is where the holiday is a little bit different for me, as only a few weeks prior to our holiday we found out we were expecting our first child. So a few of the rides will be out for me, although I now know the shops at the end of the rides inside out!
Alan went on Dinosaur and Primeval Whirl alone, but enjoyed them both. We saw Expedition Everest which is well on its way to being built and I am really looking forward to trying this ride out next year, I believe it will be open by the time we arrive.
We took a lovely stroll over to Asia and around the Maharajah Jungle Trek, we love looking at the Tigers here and a guide was telling us all about the deer. We headed in to Africa and wandered around the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail. We could watch the Gorillas here forever. Again I had to miss out on the Safari and Alan didnt fancy it alone, so we are saving this one for next year too.
We caught the train over to Rafiki's Planet Watch, we noticed that there was a lot of things here under rehab, but we still managed to see some snakes but the bit I love which is the operating theatre was under rehab. On a previous trip we were luckily enough to see a Gorilla having a tooth removed. I like spending some time in the Affection Section with the goats and sheep.
By now it was lunch time so we headed out of the park and got the bus back to the lodge, we changed and headed out to the pool. I had a lovely Strawberry Daquiri a virgin one! And Alan had a sprite. We found the water in the pool quite cold so we didnt spend too long in there, but Alan sunbathed and I read my book. One thing we didnt like here was the amount of people who fed the birds by the pool or left there food on the tables whist they went for a swim. Of course they seemed to be shocked when they came back and found a flock of birds eating there dinner!!
We went to change for dinner and it began to rain, we hoped it wouldnt last as tonight was our Wishes Cruise!
We had dinner with our friends who live in Florida at Whispering Canyon Café. Everyone had the canyon skillet which consisted of smoked pork ribs, canyon pulled pork, oven-roasted chicken, pork sausage, Yukon Gold mashed potatoes, cowboy beans, creamy coleslaw and corn on the cob. It seemed that everyone enjoyed this as they asked for more of different things. I had the Cousin Al's Vegetarian Pasta, which was nice. We loved the sheriff milkshakes here, they were pored in to jam jars and frequently topped up! We had no dessert tonight as the plan was that Alan had arranged the birthday package add on for the Wishes Cruise. But as we were eating dinner the rain got worse and now there was thunder and lightning so it looked like the cruise was going to be cancelled.
After dinner Alan went to guest services who called the marina and confirmed that our cruise was indeed not going ahead tonight, so we sat by the fire place on the rocking chairs and exchanged some gifts. Mike and Di always spoil us and had given us a Pal Mickey, lots of limited pins and golf bits among other presents.
Mike and Di called it a night then and we said our goodbyes, but we were seeing them again during our trip. We decided to make a mad dash for it down to the marina to see it we could possibly pick up my birthday cake we had ordered. The guys at the marina walked with us back up to our room carrying the cake and a cooler full of soft drinks.
We had a small slice each, whilst Alan called recreation to see if we could get a cancellation to have the cruise on another night. Would you believe it we were actually able to rearrange the cruise for the actual night of my birthday in a couple of days time, I think Mickey was smiling down at us.
