April alamo..rate dropped again!

coinkc - I have had this happen to me a couple times, and wondered whether I got a valid deal. Once, I booked the fantastic quote, then accidentally deleted/canceled it and when I tried again minutes later, it was much higher! Argh.

If you look at your confirmation email, you should be able to scroll down and see all the details for your reservation. Within those details, it will say things like "Base rate...$XX...Contact ID - Alamo Insider's...Discounts - Visa coupon ($30)..." etc. If everything is legit, I think you are good to go.:thumbsup2

BTW - when I looked at these details yesterday, the description of my coupon said something like "Visa discount 2010" - but it has been extended through the end of this year, so still good.

I always use coupons, and usually go to the kiosk. ?? Not sure if that counts as going to the counter.

I always have coupons and have always been able to use the kiosk without problem or incidents. I just love Alamo for that!! :goodvibes. I know with coupons/coupon codes you cannot do the online check-in. I am so thankful for the kiosks, because avoiding the counter is always my goal.

Congrats to all with all those low rates for your upcoming trips. I am going in July and I am really hoping and praying for a price drop soon. It's killing me. So far the lowest I have seen for full size is over $500!!! I am hoping to get the rates that all of you are seeing now!!!

I am really doing the happy dance now:banana: I now have a full size car for 4/26-30th for the low, low price of $92.32. When I first booked the car the starting rate was $325.00

.

Thanks for the info. Mine says Alamo Insiders (which I have) then the "American Airlines Valley Discount" which I googled and is a code for the general public.

I'm just going to make sure I have the printed confirmation with the rate and cross my fingers!

now - does anybody know if a mid-size SUV will hold 5 people and 3 suitcases comfortably? We aren't worried about the seating but moreso the back storage space for luggage.

coinkc - This is exactly what mine says, so I think you are good!:goodvibes Sorry, can't answer the question regarding size, except to say my CR-V is a small SUV, and we have had 5 adults and numerous suitcases in it. The adults didn't have a ton of room, but for driving around town it works.

BTW - howdy, neighbor.

UGH!! I can not get my rental down under $300. I currently have a minivan through Budget for that amount. I need April 6-12, I guess the Easter weekend is what is killing the deals for me. Thanks for posting and I will keep trying- you guys are giving me hope!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I had originally reserved with Budget for $281 for 4/17 to 4/24. I then used the "wendy" code and was down to $210. Yesterday with Alamo down to $184 for a compact car. I just checked again and now have a midsize car reserved with Alamo at $124.80!!!!! :cool1:

Thank you! You provide very helpful car rental information! What do you think the biggest difference between a full size and premium car are? I would imagine, maybe the features??? Just trying to think if the extra $36 is actually worth it. My DH says yes but I'm not quite sure.

In all honesty, if given the choice of a full size or paying 36.00 more for a Premium, I would stay with the full size car. The biggest difference from what I have seen recently is mostly a few features, none worth getting excited about. A Mercury Marquis or a Crown Vic does not do a thing for me. The Chrysler 300 is nice, but, nothing I would trade the full size for. About the only car I would opt for in the Premium class is the Accord and those are far and few between and I would only opt for it because I own an Accord and would like to see what the new ones are like. Now, if they put the "baby" Infiniti on the Premium side, I would get excited. I rented one earlier this month. Wonderful car.

I couldn't find the procedures though once you get to the airport. Do you have to go to the counter? Straight to the garage?

You can sign in online, if you don't have coupons. Or, you can go to the kiosk if you do have coupons, they are not in the garage, they are near the counter. Or, you can go to the counter.
You MAY not go to the garage without checking in in one of the ways described above. There are no kiosks in the garage and no counter service.

I put in the travelocity code from above and my Insider's number. For some reason, a mid-size SUV came up with a rate of $157 including taxes for a week's rental. It was cheaper than any other car (including an economy). I booked it right away but am now wondering if it was a glitch in the system and whether they will honor it or not.

I put in the same codes again and the rental was over $300 for the same car. Did I just get lucky and hit enter at the right time? Or do you suppose it was a computer error and we might have trouble when we pick up the car?

We need to transport 5 people plus luggage. I had planned on getting a full size car but if this SUV will work it was much cheaper.

Make sure you print the reservation. If it is printed and confirmed, they will honor it.

You guys are awesome!!! I always forget to check Alamo website, but I always find time for the DIS, and I was able to cut my April Alamo rental in half. :cool1:

Had to play around with the codes to modify -- the Alamo computer is good at adding coded info that locks in the price. But a couple of tries and it worked.

Thanks again!
