Hi all.Travelling for the first time from Maine to MCO during April school vacation,Currently the airline prices are preposterous. I am wondering if all my fellow New England Dis'ers can tell me what you have paid in the past (roughly) to fly from either Boston , Manchester or Portland to MCO during April break...
I am anxiousy awaiting Southwest's release on Thursday.
Thanks everyone.

I see you can get JetBlue that week for as low as $124 each way out of Logan, but you would have to fly during off times, such as Tuesday. If the kids can be a couple days late for school after vacation, it can be done cheaply, but otherwise, wow, the prices are really high.

Everyone is waiting for Thurs(I booked Airtran weeks ago), but have 14 friends and family waiting just like you are...be ready is your best bet now.

I got my tickets in May and paid about $310 rt pp out of Portland. I feel very pleased with that now that the fares have gone up so much.

If you can go from like Wed 4/16 to Wed 4/23 there is a $304 rt pp fare on Orbitz for Air Tran out of Portland. Or 4/16 to 4/24 for $325.
Going 2 or 3 days earlier is cheaper if you can do it (if your kids can miss school).
My DS just happens to have no school on the 18th so he will only miss 1/2 day of school on the 17th.

Hope Southwest comes through for you.pixiedust: Good luck.

We've been going to Florida each April vacation for the last few years. In 2006, we paid 212.00 pp rt on Delta, Boston to West Palm Beach. April 2007, we paid 145.00 pp rt ns on Southwest out of Manchester to Orlando. This year, we need to get to Miami from either Boston or Manchester on April 18 for a cruise that leaves the next day. We have no flexibility in our dates as I'm a teacher. My school will not allow us to take personal days before/after vacations or long weekends. This year, the airfare out of Boston or Manchester is outrageous. Even with my lack of flexibiltiy, I can come up with 16 different ways of planning these flights, changing airports, staying an extra day on the end, etc. The fares that I can come up with range from a "low" of $463.00 per person to $696.00 per person. Non of these are even non stops. Some of the layovers are ridiculous: 12 hours! I have been watching since fares started to come out for this route in the spring. I have an idea of how much airfare to Florida from my area might be. I never thought that I would have to pay around 500.00 for a flight to Miami. I'm really hoping that SW doesn't let us down. I have a credit with them. That should help. I don't expect to get the flights for as low as this past April! We got an excellent deal on our cruise. I never thought that the airfare would cost more than the cruise...

April vacation has been discussed over and over on this board. I booked our flights for this coming April last May (11 months out) and still got a ridiculous rate of 385.00 rt. Delta non stop going down, and USAIR stopping in PHL coming back to Boston. Good luck with SW, that is really your only option at this point, everything else is gone.

BOOK AT ONCE.

Do not "wait" on a Ding!

You aren't the only person trying to escape the cold and waiting is proably not a good idea unless you are VERY flexible!

No-frills startup Skybus has fares as low as $150 round trip - from Portsmouth to Jacksonville/Daytona Beach, so you have to add the cost of a rental car.

www.skybus.com - depart 4/13, return 4/19

If you can fly out of Manchester, NH, I would also suggest waiting on the computer tomorrow...I believe that is the day Southwest will release its fares. Problem is ...you have to pretty much book it IMMEDIATELY or the good fares are gone.

We are flying from Providence to MCO over Feb. school break and by doing that I was able to get RT nonstop for $220 a person. To fly JetBlue on the same dates was over $600 a person.

Good luck to you!

Heather

Ronda, some friends of ours got the $10 seats on Skybus on that route for next May. I will be anxious to hear how their flights go.
A lot more choices now for us in Maine and New England.

I'm from Michigan, so not sure if this will help, but I just booked for family of 4 on Northwest and got them for $156 each roundtrip (including tax). I didn't have any type of discount. Our trip isn't until late April, but felt I better book now while the rates are still half way decent and the flights that I want are still available.

And it's not exactly true that you get to go the Jacksonville... you really fly into St. Augestine. (Which is a very small airport so rental cars may be higher)

IMHO Skybus calling this "Jacksonville/Daytona Beach" borders on deceptive advertising..
